PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nikolay Teleshev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donny Parris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Donny Parris told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolay Teleshev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Donny Parris!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Teleshev shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Parris as he avoids it easily.
Teleshev keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nikolay Teleshev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Parris looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Teleshev is fending him off so far but Parris persists. Nope, Teleshev circles away and we're back to standing.

and Parris counters with a nice double leg into side control. Teleshev won't be happy with that.
Teleshev might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Teleshev wants to get back to his feet.
Teleshev is breathing heavily.
Parris wants to control but Teleshev is keeping him busy.
Parris is working Teleshev over with some ground and pound from side control.
Parris has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Teleshev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Parris on the ground.

Teleshev is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Parris has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Teleshev takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Parris is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Teleshev knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Parris looks up at the clock and then as Teleshev takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Parris smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Parris in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Parris scores with a couple of short elbows.
Teleshev is working to avoid the ground and pound but Parris connects with a decent elbow.

Teleshev tries to bench press Parris off him but Parris keeps the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Parris counters with a shoot takedown. Teleshev fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Parris accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Parris wants to control from the top but Teleshev keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Teleshev takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Teleshev closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Parris wants to control but Teleshev postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Parris is trying to work for a kimura but Teleshev is defending well.

Teleshev flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Teleshev counters with a single leg into guard. Parris didn't expect that.
Parris bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Teleshev's guard.

Teleshev has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Parris can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Parris stands up over Teleshev, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Donny Parris dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Teleshev is defended easily by Parris.

Parris closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Parris lands in his opponent's guard.

Teleshev throws his legs up looking for a submission but Parris uses it to pass to side control.

You can see the frustration on Teleshev's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Teleshev changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Parris looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Parris is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Teleshev's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Parris tries to get to full guard but Teleshev has control of the leg.

Teleshev looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Parris is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Teleshev's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Teleshev's back!

Teleshev is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Parris is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Donny Parris will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Teleshev has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Parris to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Teleshev is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Parris pulls down on the head and he's put Teleshev to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Donny Parris!
