PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and australian fighter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Benjamin Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, australian fighter!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
fighter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Davis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
fighter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Davis stands up and waves to fighter to follow him.
A head kick from fighter lands but Davis takes it in his stride.

Davis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

fighter looking for subs off his back but Davis has passed one foot through into half guard.
Davis content to control rather than advance.

Davis is looking to advance position but fighter won't allow it.
fighter is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
fighter is trying to control but can't.
fighter is trying to stand up here but Davis is controlling him well.
fighter wants to sweep but Davis has passed to side control!
fighter tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Davis presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

fighter defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Davis.
Davis is landing with some decent strikes but fighter is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Davis could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
fighter is working to get back to half guard.

Davis looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Davis is breathing heavily.
fighter tries to lock up and control but Davis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

fighter is looking to improve his position but Davis isn't that keen on the idea.
Davis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for fighter on the ground.

Davis is standing up, even though he is in mount.
fighter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
fighter wants to clinch up but Davis keeps it at a distance.
Davis throws a head kick that misses
and fighter counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Davis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming fighter to the mat! fighter manages to get full guard.
fighter tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Davis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

fighter is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davis is aware though and is defending well.
Davis trying to control but fighter is working from the bottom.
Davis stays in close to fighter's body and controls the position.
Davis looking to sit in guard and control but fighter gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Davis is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Davis has knee on belly momentarily but fighter bucks him off and regains half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

fighter is looking for a sweep. Davis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Benjamin Davis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Davis stuffs the takedown.

and Davis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in fighter's guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Davis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Davis drops back, looking for a kneebar! fighter looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. fighter looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from fighter!
Davis is looking to work his way out of this bad position but fighter is controlling him well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Davis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
fighter fails to pull guard.
fighter tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Davis gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, fighter regains guard.
Davis controls from within his opponent's guard.
fighter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Davis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
fighter trying to keep a closed guard but Davis is proving a slippery customer.
Davis wants to stand but fighter is controlling his posture from full guard.
Davis thows a big elbow that misses.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Davis counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Davis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because fighter is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Davis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
