PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Corbett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Huntta Ninja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Ninja's choice of entrance music: Dead and Gone. Huntta Ninja looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Corbett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Huntta Ninja!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ninja darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Ninja gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Corbett misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ninja will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ninja tries for a takedown but Corbett sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ninja looks gassed!
Ninja shoots in but Corbett avoids the takedown attempt easily.
John Corbett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Huntta Ninja.

Corbett drives through with a takedown into guard.
Corbett pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ninja is keeping the position for now.

Corbett stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Ninja gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.Corbett lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Corbett is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ninja wants to get back to his feet but Corbett is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ninja keeping full guard, as Corbett tries to pass.

Corbett prevents Ninja from getting back to his feet.

Corbett decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Ninja with a poor takedown

and Corbett counters with a takedown into side control.
Ninja wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Corbett stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Corbett has Ninja up against the cage in a clinch.
Ninja looking for a takedown.
Ninja has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Corbett avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Corbett is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ninja can't fight it off and eventually Corbett manages to take the fight to the floor. Ninja looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Corbett wants to pass the guard but Ninja is keeping the position.

Corbett drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Corbett jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ninja wants to stand and escape but Corbett is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ninja is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Corbett.
Corbett has Ninja pressed against the cage.
Ninja can't get the takedown.

Corbett lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Ninja makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Ninja shoots and misses

and Corbett counters with a takedown into side control.
Corbett trying to control the action but Ninja is working from the bottom.
Ninja is trying to get back to his feet.

Ninja throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Ninja looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Corbett!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ninja trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Corbett can't escape the position.
Corbett wants to control but Ninja is having none of it.
Ninja can't control as he wanted to and Corbett manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Huntta Ninja.
Ninja gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Corbett counters with a single leg into guard. Ninja didn't expect that.
Ninja is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Corbett thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Corbett decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ninja tries for a takedown but Corbett circles away easily

and Corbett counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Corbett.
Ninja is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Corbett pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Ninja can't get the takedown.
Corbett wants a takedown.
Ninja wants a takedown but no success here.

Corbett wants the takedown. Ninja is fighting it off but Corbett persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ninja's guard against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ninja pushes Corbett off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Corbett takes the fight into the clinch.
Ninja goes for a takedown in the clinch but Corbett prevents it.
Ninja changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Corbett fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Corbett throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Ninja stumbling backwards into the cage! Ninja bounces back off the cage towards Corbett, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Corbett lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Corbett celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). John Corbett!
