Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicola Kalub! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Hawk! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kalub throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hawk. Kalub misses with the combination.
Hawk uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kalub.
Hawk throws a nice looking combination but Kalub bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Kalub lands with a thumping leg kick.
Kalub cracks Hawk with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
It looks like Brian Hawk has been cut. Hawk walks forward, straight into a front kick from Kalub. Kalub pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Hawk fails with a takedown attempt. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! A nice combination there by Kalub.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kalub misses with a wild combination.
A shot to de liver by Kalub. Beautiful body shot. Hawk looks gassed! Some wild striking there from Hawk.
A left and a right from Kalub both land. Nice combination. Kalub misses with a few strikes there.
Kalub closes the distance and clinches. Kalub looks to throw an elbow but misses. Kalub lands an elbow inside. Kalub lands a knee to the head.
That has opened up Brian Hawk's cut even more. Hawk tries to score a body lock takedown but Kalub shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Kalub obliges. Kalub lands an elbow that stopped Hawk in his tracks for a moment.
The cut above Brian Hawk's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Hawk takes a knee right on the jaw!
Kalub is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Hawk is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kalub is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Hawk to the mat. Hawk regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalub landing with the ground and pound. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kalub's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Kalub with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Kalub stands up over Hawk, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Kalub landing with the ground and pound. Kalub cracks Hawk with a solid left hand. Kalub is working Hawk over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Kalub landing with the ground and pound. Kalub chips away with some ground and pound. Kalub postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Hawk utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kalub lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Kalub lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Kalub throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hawk works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Hawk trying to keep a closed guard but Kalub is proving a slippery customer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kalub accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hawk looking for a sweep. Not yet Hawk, not yet. Kalub throws a big right hand that misses.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Hawk looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Nice body kick there by Kalub. Kalub misses with the combination.
Kalub closes the distance and pushes Hawk back into the cage. Kalub lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Hawk backwards. Kalub tries to land knees in the clinch but Hawk avoids the damage to the body. Hawk avoids the elbow strike from Kalub, against the cage.
Kalub lands an elbow inside.
Brian Hawk's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters. Knees to the body from Kalub.
Kalub scores with a knee to the head.
Kalub throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Hawks head. Kalub turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kalub lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hawk down.
Hawk is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Hawk is trying to buck Kalub off.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hawk takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Kalub scoring with punches and elbows.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Brian Hawk's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Nicola Kalub!
