PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave Munden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manuel Rios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Munden comes to the cage accompanied by time of the season. Rios is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Like Toy Soldiers. Manuel Rios is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Munden! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Manuel Rios! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Munden tries to clinch up. Rios tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Munden swivels and escapes. Rios fails with a takedown attempt. Rios avoids the head kick by Munden.
A head kick misses from Munden. Rios drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rios is looking to take a break and control but Munden is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Rios goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Munden has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Rios but great work by Munden. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rios tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Munden presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Rios working to try and regain half guard.
Rios tries to control Munden's body but Munden pushes him off. Rios squirms to his side and now Munden has his back! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Munden is breathing heavily. Munden doesn't have the hooks in and Rios manages to turn into his guard.
Rios working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Rios trying to control but Munden is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Rios tries to free his leg and advance position but Munden is retaining full guard. Munden has his foot on Rios's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rios works his way back into a safe position though. Munden might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Rios working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Rios postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Rios tries to stand but Munden is controlling from the bottom.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Munden throws a big shot that misses. Rios tries to clinch but Munden moves away and Munden counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Rios's guard now. Rios throws his legs up looking for a submission but Munden uses it to pass to side control.
Rios wants to control but Munden postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Munden is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Rios looks calm but he's in trouble here. Munden gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Rios is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Munden lets go of the hold and Rios can pop his arm back in it's socket.
