PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Esa Nahka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Esa Nahka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Crane!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crane closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nahka circles away.
Nahka swats away the attempt to clinch by Crane.
Esa Nahka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nahka rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Crane moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Crane will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Nahka instigates a clinch.
Crane wants a takedown but no success here.
Esa Nahka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Crane.

Nahka escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Crane shoots for a takedown but Nahka saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Nahka bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Nahka's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Nahka has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Nahka thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Crane is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Nahka pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Nahka thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Crane's head.
Crane is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Nahka's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Nahka's back!

Nahka ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Nahka no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Esa Nahka just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Crane fails with the takedown

and Nahka holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Nahka's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Nahka's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Nahka closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Nahka lands in his opponent's guard.

Crane is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nahka wants to work for an arm triangle but Crane is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Nahka is trying to control the action in half guard but Crane is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Crane regains full guard. Nicely done.

Crane had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Nahka is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Crane Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Nahka's back instead.
Even with his hooks in, Crane manages to miss with strikes from the back.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Nahka knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Crane on the ground.

Crane is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Nahka is defending well though. Crane let's go of the attempt for now.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Nahka tries to hold on but Crane pushes him away.
James Crane has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nahka is bucking up trying to escape but Crane cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Nahka is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Esa Nahka is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Nahka wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Crane.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to James Crane.
Well Nahka has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
