PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Hempdog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kyle Hempdog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leo Henderson!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Illya Tyunina and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hempdog fails to land the takedown.

Henderson has managed to clinch.
Henderson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Henderson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hempdog is defended easily by Henderson.
Hempdog shoots in for a takedown but Henderson shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyle Hempdog. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Henderson lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Hempdog shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Henderson pinned against the cage. Henderson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hempdog shoots for a takedown but Henderson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hempdog takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
A lazy left from Henderson finds it's target.
Horrible takedown by Hempdog or perhaps it was just good defense by Henderson which made him look bad.

Hempdog changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Henderson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Hempdog tries to move to mount but Henderson blocks the move with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hempdog is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Henderson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hempdog tries for a kimura but Henderson is defending well.
Hempdog is breathing heavily.

Hempdog is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Henderson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Henderson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hempdog. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hempdog swings around for an armbar but Henderson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hempdog's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hempdog looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Henderson has picked Hempdog up and slammed him! Hempdog can't keep hold of the triangle and Henderson manages to pass to side control!

Hempdog is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Henderson is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Henderson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hempdog is looking to escape.
Hempdog bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Hempdog drops back looking for a leg! Henderson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Henderson manages to kick Hempdog off! Hempdog jumps back into Henderson's guard.

Hempdog postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Henderson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hempdog, into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leo Henderson dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Henderson throws a nice looking combination but Hempdog bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hempdog fails to land the takedown.
Hempdog avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A combination from Henderson does no damage.
Hempdog looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Henderson is fending him off so far but Hempdog persists. Nope, Henderson circles away and we're back to standing.
Hempdog doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Hempdog fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Henderson sprawls well initially but Hempdog persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hempdog is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Hempdog is working for a kimura but Henderson is defending it quite comfortably.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Henderson regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Hempdog.

Hempdog is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Henderson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Henderson has escaped and now he's on top!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hempdog wants to sweep but no luck.

Hempdog escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Henderson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hempdog has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Henderson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hempdog.

Henderson stands up.
Leo Henderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Henderson misses with a wild combination.
Hempdog looks for a takedown but Henderson sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyle Hempdog. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Henderson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Henderson lands with a nice body punch.
Henderson throws a shot from downtown. Hempdog moves away and avoids it.
Hempdog shoots for a takedown but Henderson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hempdog bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Kyle Hempdog is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Henderson misses with a few strikes there.
Hempdog tries to score a power double leg takedown but Henderson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hempdog somewhat.

Leo Henderson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Hempdog shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Henderson defends it nicely.
Hempdog takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Hempdog avoids a punch combination nicely.
A jab from Henderson does it's job there.
Henderson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hempdog shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Hempdog lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hempdog.

Henderson lands a nice hook to Hempdog's body. Hempdog takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Hempdog will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hempdog swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Henderson is now in Hempdog's guard. A big mistake from Hempdog there, giving up the dominant position!

Hempdog has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Henderson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hempdog is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hempdog has his foot on Henderson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Henderson works his way back into a safe position though.
Henderson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hempdog wants to sweep but no luck.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Henderson leaves Hempdog with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Henderson is looking to clinch but Hempdog is avoiding it.
Hempdog's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Hempdog duly obliges.
Kyle Hempdog has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Leo Henderson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kyle Hempdog.
I think Henderson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
