PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Luis Adriano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Andrews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adriano comes to the cage accompanied by I GOTTA FEELING. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luis Adriano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Andrews!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Andrews fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Adriano manages to avoid it.

Andrews closes the distance and pushes Adriano back into the cage.
Andrews is trying to break the clinch but Adriano has him pressed against the cage.

and Andrews counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Andrews changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Adriano fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Andrews closes the distance and clinches.

Adriano breaks from the clinch.
Andrews misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Adriano throws a wild body kick that Andrews sees coming a mile off.

and Andrews decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Adriano's guard.

Andrews controlling from the top position.
Andrews sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Adriano's guard.
Andrews has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Andrews keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Andrews stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Adriano tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Andrews counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Andrews is looking to take a break and control but Adriano is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Andrews seems to be looking for submissions.
Andrews uses his free foot to push down on Adriano's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Adriano.
Adriano's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Adriano wants to hold on but Andrews pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Andrews is landing with some decent strikes but Adriano is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Adriano tries to hold on but Andrews postures up.
Adriano keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Andrews controlling from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Andrews throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Andrews trying to control but Adriano is having none of it.
Adriano is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Andrews dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Andrews dodges the punch combination from Adriano.
Adriano clinches but Andrews breaks the clinch

and Andrews counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Andrews decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Luis Adriano is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Andrews has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Andrews is breathing heavily.
Adriano misses with a head kick.
Adriano misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Adriano defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Andrews.
Adriano wants to clinch but Andrews slips to the side

and Andrews counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Andrews won't allow Adriano to get back to his feet.
Mike Andrews has got the better of the ground game so far.
Adriano trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Andrews stands up and waves to Adriano to follow him.
Andrews shoots for a takedown but Adriano saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A jab from Adriano does it's job there.

Andrews drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Andrews gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Andrews avoids the head kick by Adriano.
Andrews should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Adriano tries to clinch but Andrews moves away

and Andrews counters with a shoot takedown. Adriano fights it but they end up in guard.
Andrews forces his way into half guard.
Andrews with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Adriano is in trouble now - Andrews has advanced to mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Andrews has control of Adriano's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Adriano regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Adriano is trying to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
You get the feeling that Adriano really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Andrews fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Andrews looking to control and managing it successfully.

Adriano has left one of his arms exposed and Andrews doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Adriano screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mike Andrews!
