Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and jay smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Andrei Emelianenko has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andrei Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, jay smith!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Emelianenko with that takedown attempt.
Emelianenko bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Emelianenko's guard.
smith trying to control but Emelianenko is working from the bottom.

smith gets to his feet. Emelianenko looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Emelianenko shoots and misses

and smith decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Emelianenko's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
smith works over Emelianenko with some ground and pound from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Emelianenko is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst smith is controlling him.

smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Emelianenko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, smith has managed to get both his arms back between Emelianenko's legs - danger averted.
smith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's one minute gone in the round.
I looks like smith might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Let's hope that smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Emelianenko looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! smith has picked Emelianenko up and slammed him! Emelianenko can't keep hold of the triangle and smith manages to pass to side control!
Emelianenko is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Emelianenko is not content to let smith control the position.
smith controlling the position from side mount.

smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

smith stands up and beckons Emelianenko to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Emelianenko throws a lazy right hand but smith sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
smith keeps the fight on the outside.

smith drives through with a takedown into guard.
Emelianenko looking to hit a scissor sweep but smith is one step ahead there.
smith stays in close to Emelianenko's body and controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
smith postures up and lands a big shot to Emelianenko's brow.
smith is working Emelianenko over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
smith wants to stand but Emelianenko is controlling his posture from full guard.
smith won't allow Emelianenko to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

jay smith dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


smith throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Emelianenko sees it coming and avoids it easily.

smith clinches.
smith is trying to break free.
smith has Emelianenko pressed against the cage, preventing Emelianenko from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
smith works on Emelianenko's body with a couple of short punches.

Emelianenko is trying to trip smith. He has hold of a leg but smith is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Emelianenko persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Emelianenko working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Emelianenko trying to control but smith is working from the bottom.

smith had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Emelianenko is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. smith Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Emelianenko's back instead.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
smith is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. smith gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. smith gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. smith apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Emelianenko gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Emelianenko avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

smith is posturing up here but Emelianenko has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! smith tries to roll out but it's too tight and smith has to tap! Slick submission there by Emelianenko!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andrei Emelianenko!
