PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Malverde (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boris Travos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malverde comes to the cage accompanied by El Rey. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jesus Malverde!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Boris Travos!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malverde scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Travos keeps the fight on the outside.
Malverde misses with the combination.
Travos shoots in for a takedown but Malverde shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Travos postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Travos throws a strike but Malverde rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Travos is looking for a triangle here but Malverde uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Malverde wants to stand but Travos has his arm trapped.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Travos closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Travos content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Travos working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Travos throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Malverde was covering up waiting for the punch and Travos finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Travos postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Travos shoots in for a takedown but Malverde shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Travos is looking to work some ground and pound but Malverde has wrist control.
Travos in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Travos is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Malverde wants to stand but Travos is controlling the position.
Travos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Malverde works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Malverde can't keep his opponent in guard - Travos advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Travos slips a jab and a cross from Malverde.

Malverde gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Travos to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Travos seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Travos can do anything to dispel that myth.

Boris Travos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Travos shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Malverde is trying to defend but Travos finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Travos lands a nice short elbow.

Travos is nestled in close to Malverde, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Malverde is not content to let Travos control the position.

Malverde makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Travos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I've got Travos winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
