Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Emerson Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Alonso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alonso has chosen Epidemic as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Emerson Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marco Alonso! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos tries to close the distance and clinch but Alonso swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Nice sprawl there from Alonso as Santos shoots in. Alonso shoots in but doesn't get the takedown so Santos counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Santos in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Alonso preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Alonso is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Santos defends well. Santos is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Alonso is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Santos trying to control the position from guard on top but Alonso is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Alonso preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alonso wriggles free and stands up. Alonso darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Santos wants to control but Alonso is keeping busy.
Santos looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Santos gets full guard. Alonso wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving. Santos is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Santos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alonso gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Santos is breathing heavily. Alonso trying to control but Santos is working from the bottom. Santos working for a triangle but Alonso defends it easily.
Santos is trying to control the position but Alonso postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alonso postures up in Santos's guard and throws a big left but Santos blocks it. Alonso thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Santos keeping moving, preventing Alonso from controlling successfully. Alonso is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Santos shoots and misses and Alonso counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Santos's guard now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Santos looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Santos wants to stand but Alonso is controlling the position. Santos not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alonso must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alonso slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Santos is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Santos will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Alonso wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving. Santos looking for a sweep. Not yet Santos, not yet.

Santos is looking for a kimura but Alonso is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Santos to get the leverage. Santos is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Alonso still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Alonso has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Alonso trying to control the action but Santos is working from the bottom. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Santos is trying to control Alonso's posture but Alonso avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Alonso tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Santos tries to clinch and Alonso counters with a nice double leg into guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Santos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alonso can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Santos bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alonso's guard. Alonso striking off his back but it's not causing Santos any problems. Santos lands a couple of elbows. Santos preventing the sweep. Alonso keeping moving, preventing Santos from controlling successfully. Santos working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Alonso's head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alonso works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Santos with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Alonso is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Santos shoots and misses and Alonso holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Santos is trying to break the clinch but Alonso has him pressed against the cage. Santos trying to control the position but instead, Alonso has worked for underhooks and has pushed Santos into the cage. Alonso breaks from the clinch.
Alonso doesn't manage to clinch there - Santos circles away.
Santos uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Alonso. Alonso swats away the attempt to clinch by Santos.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. A punch combination from Santos misses. Alonso throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Santos was covering up waiting for the punch and Alonso finishes the takedown easily into guard. Alonso trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Santos is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Santos will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Alonso is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Marco Alonso will probably get the nod - 10:9. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Santos closes the distance but Alonso moves to the side and Alonso counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Alonso. Alonso tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Santos just stands there and leans against the cage. Santos looking to throw knees to the head but Alonso is blocking nicely.
Alonso drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Santos gets the underhooks and prevents it.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Alonso. Alonso keeps control of Santos as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Santos lands a shoulder strike. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Alonso. Alonso is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Santos misses with the head strike.
Santos decides to pull guard. Santos looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Alonso decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Santos stalks Alonso and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Alonso's face. Alonso staggers backwards, shaken. Alonso moves into the clinch successfully.
Santos has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Alonso avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Alonso pulls guard effortlessly. Alonso is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Alonso looking for a sweep. Not yet Alonso, not yet. Santos with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Alonso keeping moving, preventing Santos from controlling successfully. Santos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Alonso clinches. Santos tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Alonso blocks an uppercut.
Santos throws an elbow but it misses.
Alonso breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Santos shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Alonso trying to hold on to Santos's head to control him but Santos postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santos looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alonso with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Santos trying to control the action but Alonso is working from the bottom. Santos looks to land a strike but Alonso avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Santos lands a couple of digs. Santos trying to control the position from guard on top but Alonso is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Emerson Santos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Alonso wants to get back to his feet but Santos is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Alonso controls Santos momentarily but Santos frees himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Alonso tries for a takedown but Santos circles away easily and Santos counters with a shoot takedown. Alonso fights it but they end up in guard. Emerson Santos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marco Alonso. Alonso is trying to control the position but Santos postures up. Alonso seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Santos wants to control from the top but Alonso keeps moving. Santos with a flurry of punches that miss. Santos drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Santos jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Marco Alonso is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Santos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Emerson Santos showed his dominance in that final round. I think Alonso has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
