PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dmitriy Bukharin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Craig Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bukharin comes to the cage accompanied by "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" by Brad Fiedel. Armstrong is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: We Were Soldiers - Sgt. Mackenzie. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dmitriy Bukharin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Craig Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Armstrong is defended easily by Bukharin.
Armstrong slaps away a takedown attempt from Bukharin, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Horrible takedown by Armstrong or perhaps it was just good defense by Bukharin which made him look bad.

Bukharin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bukharin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bukharin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Armstrong shoots in for a takedown but Bukharin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Bukharin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Armstrong was covering up waiting for the punch and Bukharin finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Armstrong is pulling down on Bukharin's head to control his posture.

Bukharin passes Armstrong's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Bukharin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Armstrong is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Bukharin leaves Armstrong with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bukharin swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Armstrong.

Armstrong feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bukharin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Armstrong defends well.

Well Armstrong has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
