Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nicholas Kirkland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirkland misses with a takedown attempt - Sharpe sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Kirkland clinches.
Sharpe wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Kirkland has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sharpe is trying to keep an underhook but Kirkland manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Sharpe is trying to maintain the position but Kirkland is very close to passing his half guard.
Kirkland looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sharpe with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sharpe is staying active underneath Kirkland, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sharpe tries to roll over but Kirkland keeps him under control.
Kirkland lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Kirkland throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sharpe trying to control from the bottom.
Kirkland frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
A nice elbow there by Kirkland.

BOOM! Kirkland connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Sharpe is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Kirkland goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sharpe turns into him and now he's in Kirkland's guard.

Sharpe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kirkland is proving hard to escape from.

Kirkland pushes Sharpe off and gets back to his feet.
Kirkland shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sharpe as he avoids it easily.

Sharpe looks to land a combination but Kirkland avoids it well.

Sharpe lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kirkland!
Kirkland is working to get back to half guard.
Kirkland wants to control but Sharpe is having none of it.
Kirkland bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Sharpe regains half guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sharpe tries to clinch

and Kirkland counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sharpe has momentary wrist control but Kirkland slips an elbow through the middle.
Kirkland stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sharpe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kirkland slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Kirkland connects with a couple of short punches.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sharpe scores with a hook.

Kirkland drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kirkland drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sharpe manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kirkland has Sharpe in his guard.
Sharpe lands a couple of digs.
Sharpe wants to stand but Kirkland has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Sharpe wants to control from the top but Kirkland keeps moving.

Sharpe wants to pass the guard but Kirkland is keeping the position.

Kirkland will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kirkland feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kirkland drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kirkland jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kirkland is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
