PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitsuyo Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stan Guyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mitsuyo Maeda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Stan Guyer!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maeda moves into range and clinches up with Guyer.
Maeda tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Maeda escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Stan Guyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guyer tries to bum rush Maeda with a series of wild strikes but Maeda uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Maeda has managed to clinch.

Maeda manages to pull guard.
Guyer would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Maeda wants to control the position but Guyer says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Maeda trying to control but Guyer postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Guyer gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Nice takedown defense from Guyer. No joy for Maeda on that attempt.

Maeda drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Maeda tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maeda has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Guyer is trying to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guyer is not content to let Maeda control the position.
Maeda controlling the position from side mount.
Maeda wants to control but Guyer is keeping him busy.
Guyer is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Maeda's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Guyer is looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Maeda not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Maeda seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Guyer manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Guyer lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Mitsuyo Maeda has been cut.
Maeda scores with a push kick.

Maeda shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Maeda is breathing heavily.
Maeda is looking to take a break and control but Guyer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Guyer is trying to stand back up but Maeda is controlling him

Maeda decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
A left and a right from Guyer both land. Nice combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Maeda looks for a takedown but Guyer sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mitsuyo Maeda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Guyer lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Maeda at a distance.
Guyer throws a shot to the body.
Maeda avoids the head kick by Guyer.

Maeda drives through and clinches with Guyer against the cage.
Come on Maeda - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Maeda escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Maeda clinches up against the cage.
Maeda tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Guyer wants to break the clinch but can't.
Maeda fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Guyer is trying to break free.
Guyer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Maeda has him pressed against the cage.
Maeda wants a takedown.

Maeda successfully pulls guard.
Maeda manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Maeda looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Maeda trying to control but Guyer is having none of it.
Guyer wants to get back to his feet.
Maeda content just to control the position here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Maeda trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Maeda controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mitsuyo Maeda will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Mitsuyo Maeda's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Maeda drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Maeda wants to lay and pray for a moment but Guyer keeps working.
Maeda wants to take a breather but Guyer manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Maeda.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mitsuyo Maeda just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Maeda tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Guyer swivels and escapes.
Guyer swinging wilding here.
Maeda misses with a double jab
and Guyer counters with a two punch combo.
Nice takedown defense from Guyer. No joy for Maeda on that attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Maeda wants to clinch.

Maeda circles away from the clinch attempt

and Maeda counters by moving into the clinch.
Maeda tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mitsuyo Maeda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Guyer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Maeda has him pressed against the cage.
Maeda wants to stall.
Maeda tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Guyer smiles and moves away.
Maeda fails to land the takedown.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Guyer!
Guyer lands a lovely overhand right.
Guyer ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Maeda shoots in but Guyer avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Guyer pivots, looking for a leg kick but Maeda is out of range and Guyer settles back down.
Guyer tries to clinch there but Maeda circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Maeda fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Guyer sprawls well initially but Maeda persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Maeda's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Guyer tries to get to full guard but Maeda has control of the leg.

Maeda is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Guyer is just riding it out for now. Maeda eventually gives up the hold.
Maeda prevents Guyer from standing back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Guyer is refusing to be controlled, as Maeda sits in half guard.
Maeda with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Maeda seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Guyer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Maeda works his way into side control.
Guyer is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Maeda asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Maeda working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Maeda wants to control but Guyer is keeping him busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Maeda decides to stand back up.
Maeda looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Guyer tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Guyer looks to clinch

and Maeda counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Maeda stops Guyer from getting back to his feet.
Guyer misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Guyer is doing well to control the position and prevent Maeda from advancing to side control.
Guyer is trying to stand back up but Maeda is controlling him
Guyer is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Maeda blocks the strikes from Guyer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mitsuyo Maeda dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Mitsuyo Maeda's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Maeda throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Guyer's waist but Guyer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Maeda off to one side.
Maeda avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A jab-cross combination lands for Guyer and sends Maeda crashing to the mat! Guyer follows him down to the mat - Maeda regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


Maeda is rocked!

Guyer stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Maeda to get to his feet.
Oh Maeda is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Guyer connects with a stiff jab that staggers Maeda - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Stan Guyer!
