Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Paulo Nogueira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Geronemo Mondragon! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nogueira is looking to clinch. Mondragon throws a right and a left that Nogueira avoids nicely. A good leg kick by Nogueira. Nogueira is looking to clinch but Mondragon is avoiding it.
Nogueira fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mondragon avoids it really well and circles away. Mondragon looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Mondragon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nogueira keeps working. Mondragon is thwarting Nogueira's attempts to control the position. Mondragon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nogueira. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mondragon tries to pass to full mount but Nogueira defends it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mondragon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Mondragon prevents Nogueira from improving his position. Nogueira is not content to let Mondragon control the position.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Nogueira is looking to clinch. Mondragon misses with a straight right. Nogueira fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Mondragon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mondragon stopping the sweep attempt from Nogueira.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mondragon tries to stand but Nogueira is controlling from the bottom. Mondragon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Mondragon wants to pass the guard but Nogueira is keeping the position. Mondragon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Nogueira working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mondragon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Nogueira is tightening it up a little... Mondragon has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Mondragon reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Mondragon taps out! nice BJJ there by Nogueira!
