Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brett Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hohiro Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brett Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hohiro Suzuki!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Foster shoots in and drives through. Suzuki sprawls well.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Suzuki.
Foster wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Suzuki working away.
Foster manages to work his way to half guard, despite Suzuki's best efforts.
Foster tries to get to full guard but Suzuki has control of the leg.
Foster trying to control but Suzuki postures up.
Suzuki is nestled in close to Foster, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Suzuki wants to get back to his feet.
Suzuki wants to free his trapped foot but Foster is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Suzuki prevents Foster from improving his position.
Foster is working hard here to advance position.

Suzuki is working for a kimura but Foster is defending it quite comfortably.
Foster tries to kick Suzuki off but Suzuki keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Foster tries to roll over but Suzuki keeps him under control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Foster avoids a kick to the body.
Foster shoots in for a takedown but Suzuki shows good takedown defense.
Suzuki stuffs the takedown attempt from Foster. Foster gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brett Foster. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suzuki shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Foster counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Suzuki's guard now.
Suzuki wants to sweep but no luck.
Foster trying to control the position from guard on top but Suzuki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Suzuki looks gassed!
Foster cracks Suzuki with a solid left hand.
Foster slips nicely into half guard.
Suzuki is looking to escape.
Suzuki is trying to control but can't.

Foster performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Suzuki is not content to let Foster control the position.
Suzuki wants to get back to full guard.

Foster is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Suzuki is just riding it out for now. Foster eventually gives up the hold.
Foster looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Suzuki with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Foster tries to pass to full mount but Suzuki defends it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Foster wants to control but Suzuki is keeping him busy.

Foster is looking for a kimura but Suzuki is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Foster to get the leverage.
Suzuki is in trouble now - Foster has advanced to mount!
A nice elbow there by Foster.
Foster cracks Suzuki with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Foster controlling the position easily from mount.

Suzuki tries to control Foster's body but Foster pushes him off. Suzuki squirms to his side and now Foster has his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Foster gets a takedown into half guard.
Foster slips a nice elbow through Suzuki's hands, connecting with Suzuki's forehead.
Suzuki looks like he's trying to stand up.
Nice strikes from Foster there.
Foster passes to full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Foster can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Suzuki is looking to escape.
Suzuki is breathing heavily.

Foster looking to secure an arm triangle but Suzuki defends it well.

Suzuki really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Foster looking to control and managing it successfully.
Suzuki is looking to improve his position but Foster isn't that keen on the idea.

Foster looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Foster is landing with some decent strikes but Suzuki is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Suzuki is looking to improve his position but Foster isn't that keen on the idea.

Foster working for a submission but Suzuki is keeping him at bay.
Foster with shots to the head and body - Suzuki looks very uncomfortable down there.

Foster working for a guillotine from mount but Suzuki is in no mood to give up.
Suzuki is working to get back to half guard.

Suzuki looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Foster is landing with strikes from the back.
Suzuki tries to break free.
Foster has Suzuki flattened out and is raining down punches.
Foster gets his hands free as Suzuki looks to control.
Suzuki breaks Foster's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Suzuki wants to control from the top but Foster keeps moving.

Suzuki thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Suzuki trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Suzuki drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Suzuki jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Suzuki tries for a takedown but Foster circles away easily

and Foster counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Suzuki!
Foster tries to control but Suzuki wriggling away.
Foster scoring with strikes but Suzuki is staying in there.
Foster controlling his opponent.
Suzuki is trying desperately to improve position.
Foster wants to control the pace but Suzuki is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brett Foster dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

enabling Suzuki to counter with a crisp jab.
Foster shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Suzuki but Suzuki pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Suzuki moves in looking to clinch but Foster pushes him off.

Suzuki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Suzuki working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Suzuki wanted to stand there but Foster had control of the position.

Foster wants to control the position but Suzuki says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Suzuki is trying to control the action in half guard but Foster is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Foster shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Suzuki pinned against the cage. Suzuki gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Foster shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Suzuki as he jumps to the side.
Suzuki doesn't manage to clinch there - Foster circles away.

and Foster counters with a nice double leg into side control. Suzuki won't be happy with that.

Foster tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Suzuki is trying to control Foster's posture but Foster avoids it.

Foster tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Suzuki wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Foster happy to just control the position for now.
Suzuki takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Foster is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Suzuki knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Foster has knee on belly and moves into mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Suzuki wants to control but Foster is having none of it.
Foster postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Suzuki looks a forlorn figure.
Foster prevents Suzuki from getting the reversal.
Foster looking to finish Suzuki with some ground and pound. This is bad for Suzuki!
Suzuki is working to get back to half guard.

Foster working for a submission but Suzuki is keeping him at bay.
Hohiro Suzuki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Foster is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Brett Foster showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Foster, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
