PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kimbo Slice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Hamill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kimbo Slice!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jonathan Hamill!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hamill fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Slice throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hamill.
Slice tries to clinch but Hamill moves out of range.
Hamill swats away the attempt to clinch by Slice.
Hamill fails with an attempt to clinch.

Hamill drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hamill pushes down on Slice's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Slice wants to control but Hamill is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Slice has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Hamill escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Hamill!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hamill trying to control the action but Slice is working from the bottom.
The ground and pound from Hamill seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Slice is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hamill off and has taken his back!
Hamill trying to control the hands but Slice won't let him.
Slice will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
You can see the frustration on Hamill's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hamill looking very determined here, making life difficult for Slice.
Hamill manages to reverse the position and now he's in Slice's guard. Nice work there by Hamill.

Slice had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Hamill is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Slice Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Hamill's back instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hamill manages to stand up with Slice still on his back. Eventually Slice drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.
Jonathan Hamill seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Slice shoots and misses

and Hamill counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Slice's guard now.
Hamill wants to pass the guard but Slice is keeping the position.
Slice preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Slice has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hamill can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hamill drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hamill jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Slice is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Slice is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hamill is aware though and is defending well.

Slice has his foot on Hamill's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hamill works his way back into a safe position though.

Slice can't keep his opponent in guard - Hamill advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Slice tries to roll over but Hamill keeps him under control.
Slice gets back to full guard.

Hamill tries to free his leg and advance position but Slice is retaining full guard.
Slice is trying to control the position but Hamill postures up.

Slice really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hamill in particular looking to stall.
Hamill wants to control but Slice is keeping him busy.
Hamill wants to pass to mount but Slice is defending the position.
Slice is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Slice moves into full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hamill trying to control the position from guard on top but Slice is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hamill with a flurry of punches that miss.
Slice is trying to keep Hamill in close.
Hamill wants to control from the top but Slice keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Slice is looking to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan Hamill showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Slice scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Jonathan Hamill has been cut.
Slice tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Hamill decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Slice's guard.

Slice is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Hamill rolls with it to try and escape but Slice cranks on the arm and Hamill is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
