PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex DeLarge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Murdoch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeLarge comes to the cage accompanied by You Shot Me Down by Nancy Sinatra. Murdoch has chosen Eye of the Tiger by Survivor as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex DeLarge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Murdoch!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

DeLarge shoots in and bounces Murdoch off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
DeLarge is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

DeLarge postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Murdoch is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of DeLarge, into his guard.
Murdoch tries to stand but DeLarge is controlling from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now DeLarge is on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
DeLarge missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
DeLarge in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
DeLarge has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Murdoch keeping moving, preventing DeLarge from controlling successfully.

DeLarge drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Murdoch dives on top into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
DeLarge is looking for a triangle but Murdoch pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
DeLarge controls Murdoch momentarily but Murdoch frees himself.

DeLarge working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Murdoch doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Murdoch manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Murdoch must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Murdoch wants to stand and escape but instead DeLarge has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Murdoch wants to stand up but DeLarge is controlling him.

DeLarge drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and DeLarge jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

DeLarge trying to control but Murdoch is working from the bottom.
DeLarge is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Murdoch is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Murdoch wants to stand but DeLarge is controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Murdoch connects with a jab.
A left and a right from Murdoch both land. Nice combination.
Murdoch misses with a series of wild punches.
No joy there for Murdoch, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
DeLarge fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Murdoch as DeLarge shoots in.
DeLarge throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Murdoch's waist but Murdoch gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing DeLarge off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex DeLarge. That's going to take a lot out of him.
DeLarge is breathing heavily.
Murdoch slips under a jab.
Murdoch misses with a few strikes there.

DeLarge feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
DeLarge trying to control the position from guard on top but Murdoch is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alex DeLarge will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



DeLarge shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than DeLarge was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Murdoch is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
DeLarge wants to control the pace but Murdoch is squirming around nicely.

DeLarge jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Murdoch is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Murdoch and DeLarge has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
DeLarge wants to lay and pray for a moment but Murdoch keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.

DeLarge working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Murdoch is not content to let DeLarge control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A lull in the action here.
Murdoch avoids any damage from the ground and pound of DeLarge.

DeLarge tries for a kimura but Murdoch is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

DeLarge postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
DeLarge trying to control the position but Murdoch is working away.
DeLarge is really struggling to control Murdoch but he's trying to hold on to the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

DeLarge looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

DeLarge goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Murdoch has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for DeLarge but great work by Murdoch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Murdoch tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
DeLarge is trying to control Murdoch's posture but Murdoch avoids it.

Murdoch decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex DeLarge dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Murdoch misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Alex DeLarge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
DeLarge tries to score a power double leg takedown but Murdoch sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten DeLarge somewhat.
Murdoch swinging wilding here.
Murdoch misses with a double jab.

DeLarge drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
DeLarge won't allow Murdoch to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DeLarge controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
DeLarge wants to pass the guard but Murdoch is keeping the position.

DeLarge has gone for a leg lock! Murdoch slips out almost immediately though and dives into DeLarge's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Murdoch trying to stand up but can't free himself from DeLarge's guard.

Murdoch is sitting in close to DeLarge's body. DeLarge has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Murdoch is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Murdoch is tapping! That was a very nice submission by DeLarge.
