Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Humberlito Borges! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Burgens! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Matheus Silva and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burgens fails with the takedown. Borges looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Burgens misses with a hook. Borges shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Borges showed some decent athleticism there. Burgens has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Borges is working away from the top position though. Burgens is staying active underneath Borges, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Burgens misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Burgens actively working from the bottom here. Burgens is trying to maintain the position but Borges is very close to passing his half guard. Burgens has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Borges throwing shots but Burgens is blocking nicely. Burgens trying to control but Borges postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Burgens tries to close the distance and clinch up but Borges swats him away and circles back towards the center. Burgens misses the jab. Borges has managed to clinch.
Burgens trying to stall but Borges improves his position.
Borges works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Burgens is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Burgens controls Borges momentarily but Borges frees himself. Borges really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Burgens manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Burgens throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Borges wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Burgens.
Burgens unloads with some shots from mount but Borges bucks and avoids them well.
Borges knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burgens on the ground. Burgens controlling from mount. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Burgens moves to back control. Burgens keeps control of the position easily here as Borges tries to buck him off.
Burgens misses with a punch to the head. Burgens has got one arm under Borges's chin. This could be trouble... Borges trying to control the other hand but Burgens gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Borges has tapped out! The fight is over!
