Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sam McManus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Carpenter!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carpenter thows a body shot but no joy.
McManus rushes Carpenter and presses him up against the cage.
McManus breaks from the clinch.
McManus dips to his left and cracks Carpenter with an uppercut!
McManus connects with a nice looking jab.
Carpenter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McManus tries to avoid it but Carpenter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McManus to the ground. McManus escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Carpenter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
McManus is trying to get back to full guard.
Carpenter lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McManus is trying to stand back up but Carpenter is controlling him
McManus is trying to get back to full guard.
Carpenter trying to control from half guard but McManus is working away.
Carpenter thows a huge punch but McManus dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carpenter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McManus is just riding it out for now. Carpenter eventually gives up the hold.
McManus moves into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
McManus has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Carpenter off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Carpenter.
A jab from Carpenter misses.
Carpenter has a takedown stuffed.
Sam McManus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Carpenter.
McManus connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Carpenter to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by McManus!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Sam McManus!
