Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edgar Plum! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steve Kirilenko! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kirilenko showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Plum.
Kirilenko takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Kirilenko tries to clinch but Plum moves out of range. Plum slaps away a takedown attempt from Kirilenko, before circling back to the center of the mat. Plum has managed to clinch.
Plum breaks the clinch.
Kirilenko looks to clinch and Plum counters by moving into the clinch. Kirilenko tries to score a body lock takedown but Plum shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Plum lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Kirilenko backwards. Nice body punch from Plum - that landed with a thud.
Plum lands with a light punch inside. A right hook to the body lands for Plum.
Kirilenko looks gassed! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Plum softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Plum pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Kirilenko closes the distance looking to clinch and Plum counters by clinching up. Kirilenko goes for a takedown in the clinch but Plum prevents it.
Edgar Plum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Kirilenko. Plum lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Kirilenko. Plum breaks the clinch.
Plum ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Plum rushes Kirilenko and presses him up against the cage. Plum breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Kirilenko seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Plum shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Kirilenko is backing up but Plum catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Kirilenko covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Plum Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Edgar Plum!
