PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Tyre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Gotti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gotti has chosen till i collapse as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stephen Tyre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Gotti!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyre keeps the fight on the outside.
Gotti cracks the inside of Tyre's front leg.
Tyre keeps the fight on the outside.
Tyre fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Gotti closes the distance and clinches.
Gotti is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Tyre is defending well for now.
Tyre wants a takedown.
Tyre really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gotti prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stephen Tyre. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tyre tries to pull guard but Gotti holds him up against the cage and eventually Tyre drops back down to his feet.
Tyre wants a takedown.

Tyre has Gotti pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Tyre pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gotti tumbling to the mat - Tyre dives into Gotti's guard.
Gotti will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Gotti looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tyre is one step ahead there.

Gotti doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Gotti wants to stand and escape but Tyre is having none of it.

Gotti has his feet on Tyre's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Tyre fails with a takedown attempt.

Tyre clinches up against the cage.

Tyre has picked Gotti up - he's going for a ride! Tyre dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Gotti tries to get to full guard but Tyre has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tyre is thwarting Gotti's attempts to control the position.
Gotti won't allow Tyre to pass to mount.
Gotti is trying to stand back up but Tyre is controlling him
Gotti has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gotti looks gassed!
Gotti trying to control but Tyre postures up.
Tyre thows a huge punch but Gotti dodges it nicely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gotti will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Tyre closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gotti did well to prevent Tyre getting side control.
Tyre stops Gotti from getting back to his feet.
Tyre is nestled in close to Gotti, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Tyre prevents Gotti from standing back up.
Tyre winds up and cracks Gotti with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Tyre scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Tyre looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gotti with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tyre wants to pass the guard but Gotti is defending well.
Tyre throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gotti missing with punches from the bottom.

Tyre is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Tyre lands strikes from half guard.
Tyre slips a nice elbow through Gotti's hands, connecting with Gotti's forehead.

Tyre is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gotti kicks Tyre off and gets back to his feet.
Gotti lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stephen Tyre dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Gotti avoids the head kick by Tyre.
Gotti darts in trying to clinch

and Tyre counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Tyre has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Tyre trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gotti tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Tyre landing some decent shots from guard.

Tyre drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gotti looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gotti looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gotti!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gotti decides to stand back up. Gotti steps back and let's Tyre get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gotti scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Tyre tries to buck Gotti off but Gotti is having none of it.

Gotti decides to stand up, so the ref orders Tyre to his feet.

Tyre shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gotti manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tyre postures up and lands a big shot to Gotti's brow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tyre prevents Gotti from getting back to his feet.
Gotti trying to keep a closed guard but Tyre is proving a slippery customer.
Tyre wants to pass the guard but Gotti is keeping the position.

Tyre passes into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gotti manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Tyre stops Gotti from standing up.
Gotti tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Stephen Tyre overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Tyre drops back looking for a leg! Gotti is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gotti manages to kick Tyre off! Tyre jumps back into Gotti's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gotti throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tyre.
Tyre shoots in looking for a takedown. Gotti tries to sprawl out of it but Tyre keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gotti manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gotti tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tyre sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gotti somewhat.

and Tyre counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Tyre.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stephen Tyre dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Gotti slaps away a takedown attempt from Tyre, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Tyre has managed to clinch.
Gotti misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Tyre.
Tyre blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Tyre wants a takedown.
Tyre tries to score a body lock takedown but Gotti shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stephen Tyre. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gotti tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tyre smiles and moves away.
Gotti shoots in for a takedown but Tyre shows good takedown defense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tyre gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gotti holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A right hook to the body lands for Gotti.
Tyre tries to pull guard but Gotti won't allow it.
Gotti on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Gotti breaks the clinch.
Stephen Tyre is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gotti is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Tyre shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Tyre stops Gotti from standing up.
Tyre sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gotti's guard.
Gotti tries to kick Tyre off but Tyre keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Tyre throwing shots but Gotti is blocking nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tyre working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Gotti's thigh. Gotti counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Gotti avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Tyre postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gotti is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Tyre, into his guard.
Tyre being controlled here, momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gotti trying to control the position from guard on top but Tyre is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tyre wants to sweep but no luck.
Tyre keeping moving, preventing Gotti from controlling successfully.

Tyre looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gotti decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Tyre, up you get!
Gotti moves in looking to clinch but Tyre pushes him off.
Stephen Tyre is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tyre misses with a takedown

and Gotti counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Tyre!

Gotti stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Gotti tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Tyre counters with a single leg into guard. Gotti didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tyre stands and steps away. Gotti gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tyre circles away from the clinch attempt

and Tyre decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gotti's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Stephen Tyre showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tyre, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
