PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Floyd Maywetherr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Tibbs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Floyd Maywetherr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andre Tibbs!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maywetherr tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tibbs paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tibbs swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Maywetherr is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Maywetherr tries to clinch up.
Maywetherr tries to clinch but Tibbs is having none of it.
Maywetherr tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tibbs swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Maywetherr wants to clinch up but Tibbs keeps it at a distance.
Floyd Maywetherr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maywetherr fails with an attempt to clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tibbs tries to score a power double leg takedown but Maywetherr sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tibbs somewhat.

Maywetherr moves in looking to clinch but Tibbs pushes him off.

Maywetherr tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Tibbs decides to pull guard.

Tibbs had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Maywetherr is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Tibbs Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Maywetherr's back instead.

Tibbs has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tibbs cracks Maywetherr with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Maywetherr from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Tibbs thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Tibbs just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Maywetherr tries to roll but Tibbs sticks to his back.

Tibbs is persistently looking for the submission but Maywetherr is defending it well.
Tibbs misses with a punch to the head.

Tibbs is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Maywetherr knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Maywetherr for a finish.
Maywetherr tries to escape but Tibbs has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tibbs tries to get the hooks in deep but Maywetherr pushed the leg off.
Maywetherr really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Tibbs is trying to stick to Maywetherr's back but Maywetherr is turning into Tibbs. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Tibbs's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Maywetherr.
Maywetherr won't allow Tibbs to sweep him here.
Tibbs looks gassed!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Tibbs counters with a series of strikes. Maywetherr will be more careful next time no doubt.

Tibbs finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Tibbs misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Maywetherr takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Tibbs is trying to get an arm triangle but Maywetherr is defending well.

Tibbs tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tibbs has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Tibbs is looking to take a break and control but Maywetherr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
An elbow from Tibbs crashes against the mat.
Maywetherr wants to get back to his feet but Tibbs drags him back down.
Tibbs looking to control but instead Maywetherr has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Tibbs working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Maywetherr tries to kick Tibbs off in order to stand up. Tibbs Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Tibbs controls the position.
Let's hope that Tibbs has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Maywetherr is looking for a sweep.

Maywetherr is not content to let Tibbs control the position.
Tibbs throws a strike aimed at the side of Maywetherr's head but Maywetherr avoids it well.
Tibbs fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Tibbs wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maywetherr keeps working.

Tibbs goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Maywetherr rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Tibbs's guard! Nice work there by Maywetherr!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Tibbs drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tibbs is looking to work some ground and pound but Maywetherr has wrist control.
Tibbs thows a big elbow that misses.

Tibbs is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Tibbs postures up in Maywetherr's guard and throws a big left but Maywetherr blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Tibbs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Tibbs is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Tibbs pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Maywetherr drops his hands momentarily and Tibbs takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Tibbs misses with a takedown attempt - Maywetherr sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Tibbs wants to control the pace but Maywetherr is squirming around nicely.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Maywetherr is in a horrible position here. Tibbs smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Andre Tibbs comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tibbs has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
