The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John throws a nice looking combination but Mallasvuo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Elton John seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
John throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
John takes the fight into the clinch.
A right hand to the body from John.
Mallasvuo tries for a takedown but John manages to get underhooks.
John lands on the inside with an uppercut.
It looks like Jyrki Mallasvuo has been cut.
John escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
John looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
John tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mallasvuo swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mallasvuo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Mallasvuo goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, John has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mallasvuo but great work by John.
Mallasvuo is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
John wants to stand up but Mallasvuo has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Mallasvuo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but John pulls his head out easily.

Mallasvuo has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for John. Oh but Mallasvuo has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! John goes limp - he's gone! Mallasvuo jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
