Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kalib Smolinski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kalib Smolinski was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kalib Smolinski! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Emelianenko closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Emelianenko lands in his opponent's guard. Emelianenko drops back looking for a leg! Smolinski is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smolinski manages to kick Emelianenko off! Emelianenko jumps back into Smolinski's guard. Emelianenko slips nicely into half guard. Emelianenko is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Emelianenko is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Smolinski scoring well with a low kick there.
Smolinski gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Emelianenko counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Emelianenko wants to work for an arm triangle but Smolinski is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Emelianenko got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smolinski has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Emelianenko has managed to get both his arms back between Smolinski's legs - danger averted. Emelianenko might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smolinski looking to hit a scissor sweep but Emelianenko is one step ahead there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smolinski working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Emelianenko doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Emelianenko manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Smolinski trying to keep a closed guard but Emelianenko is proving a slippery customer.
Smolinski is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Emelianenko defends well. Emelianenko gets to his feet - Smolinski follows without any prompting. Smolinski misses with a takedown and Emelianenko counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Emelianenko stands and throws Smolinski's legs to the side, diving into side control. Emelianenko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smolinski has escaped the position, nice work there. Emelianenko tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Emelianenko is trying to get an arm triangle but Smolinski is defending well. Emelianenko goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Smolinski has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Emelianenko but great work by Smolinski. Smolinski has control of an arm but Emelianenko manages to advance to Smolinski's back!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smolinski struggling to keep hold of the position.
Smolinski is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Emelianenko knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Emelianenko for a finish. Emelianenko fending off the submission attempt from Smolinski. Smolinski looking to break Emelianenko's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Emelianenko remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Smolinski will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Smolinski misses with an elbow to the head. Emelianenko trying to control the action but Smolinski just sinks the hooks in. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Emelianenko covering up well under a barage of strikes. Emelianenko turns into Smolinski and is now in his guard.
Emelianenko gets to his feet - Smolinski follows without any prompting. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Fedor Emelianenko dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Smolinski darts in trying to clinch and Emelianenko counters with a single leg into guard. Smolinski didn't expect that. Smolinski working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Emelianenko doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Emelianenko manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Emelianenko thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Smolinski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Smolinski looking for subs off his back but Emelianenko has passed one foot through into half guard.
Emelianenko has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Smolinski defend it? Emelianenko steps over the head and cranks it - Smolinski is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Emelianenko!
