The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hansen gets caught flat footed, as Penn shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Penn advances position into side control! Penn looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Penn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Hansen is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Penn's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Penn is pressing down on Hansen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hansen is holding on for now. Penn is looking for a kimura here.
Penn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hansen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hansen looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hansen is looking to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Penn fails to land the takedown. Penn is breathing heavily. Hansen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hansen lands in his opponent's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn keeping moving, preventing Hansen from controlling successfully. Hansen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Hansen lands a couple of digs. Hansen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Penn is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Penn has escaped and now he's on top! Hansen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hansen kicks Penn off and gets to his feet. Hansen bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Penn's head backwards. Penn tries for a takedown but Hansen sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Penn shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Hansen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JB Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hansen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Penn circles away quickly and effectively. Penn with a lazy takedown attempt and Hansen counters with a series of strikes. Penn will be more careful next time no doubt. Hansen wants to clinch up but Penn keeps it at a distance. A solid leg kick lands there for Hansen.
JB Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Penn moves into the clinch. Penn tries to pull guard but Hansen holds him up against the cage and eventually Penn drops back down to his feet.
Hansen tries to break the clinch but Penn is controlling the position. Hansen pulls guard successfully.
Penn trying to control but Hansen is working from the bottom. Hansen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Penn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Penn has gone for a leg lock! Hansen slips out almost immediately though and dives into Penn's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Chris Hansen dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Hansen clinches. Penn jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hansen walks away with a smile on his face. Penn gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Hansen circles away from the clinch attempt enabling Hansen to counter with a crisp jab. Hansen ducks under a wild hook from Penn. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Penn with a poor takedown and Hansen counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hansen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Penn misses with a takedown attempt and Hansen counters with a two punch combo. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JB Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hansen shoots in but no luck this time. Hansen closes the distance but Penn moves to the side and Penn counters with a nice low kick that buckles Hansen's knee momentarily. Penn has his takedown stuffed and Hansen counters with a single leg into guard. Penn didn't expect that. Hansen tries to free his leg and advance position but Penn is retaining full guard. Penn working for a triangle but Hansen defends it easily.
Penn wants to stand but Hansen is controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hansen drops back looking for a leg! Penn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Penn manages to kick Hansen off! Hansen jumps back into Penn's guard. Penn looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hansen postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Penn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hansen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hansen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Penn is keeping the position for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Hansen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hansen misses with a combination
and Penn counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Penn. Hansen tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Penn avoids it. Hansen gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Penn.
Hansen with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
With the fighters up against the cage, Hansen throws an elbow but misses. Hansen is trying to break free. Penn manages to pull guard.
Hansen stands up from guard. Let's bang! Hansen gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Penn stalling in the clinch but Hansen improves position. Hansen lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Penn backwards. Penn blocks an uppercut.
Penn is looking to control Hansen's arms but Hansen gets an underhook and turns him. Now Penn has his back to the cage. Penn is trying to break the clinch but Hansen is controlling him. Hansen keeps control of Penn as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Hansen lands an elbow that stopped Penn in his tracks for a moment. Hansen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Penn uses from the top position. Hansen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Chris Hansen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Hansen shoots in looking for a takedown. Penn tries to sprawl out of it but Hansen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Penn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Penn with a lazy takedown attempt and Hansen counters with a nice uppercut. Hansen shoots in and bounces Penn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Penn is looking for a triangle here but Hansen uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Hansen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Penn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hansen lands some shots froms side control. Penn tries to improve position but can't. Penn manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Penn is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Hansen keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully. Hansen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Hansen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Penn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Penn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Penn postures up in Hansen's guard and throws a big left but Hansen blocks it. Penn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Hansen has his foot on Penn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penn works his way back into a safe position though. Penn drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Penn seems to have locked his on tight now - Hansen screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Penn, as he picks up the win!
