PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gegard Mousasi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Callahan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Callahan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Get the Funk Out Ma Face. On his way into the cage it seems that Gegard Mousasi has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gegard Mousasi seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gegard Mousasi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tommy Callahan!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Callahan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mousasi as he avoids it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Callahan has had enough of the clinch but Mousasi keeps him there for the moment.
Mousasi is leaning against Callahan and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Callahan lands a nice shot to the body.

Mousasi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mousasi tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Callahan counters with a body kick.
No luck for Mousasi with that takedown attempt.
Mousasi avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Mousasi looks to clinch

and Callahan counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Callahan.
Mousasi is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Callahan wanted to stand there but Mousasi had control of the position.
Callahan throwing strikes from guard but Mousasi blocks nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mousasi keeping moving, preventing Callahan from controlling successfully.

Callahan is looking to work some ground and pound but Mousasi has wrist control.

Callahan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Mousasi wants to sweep but no luck.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mousasi takes one to the chin there.


It looks like Gegard Mousasi has been cut.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mousasi swings wildly with an uppercut but Callahan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mousasi trying to control the position but instead, Callahan has worked for underhooks and has pushed Mousasi into the cage.

Callahan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A left and a right from Callahan both land. Nice combination.

Callahan has managed to clinch.
Callahan lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Mousasi has Callahan pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Callahan manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Callahan turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Callahan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Callahan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mousasi keeps working.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mousasi wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Callahan throws a series of punches but Mousasi avoids them all with ease.

Callahan forces Mousasi back against the cage and clinches.

Callahan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mousasi closes the distance but Callahan moves to the side

and Callahan counters with a single leg into guard. Mousasi didn't expect that.
Mousasi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Callahan on the ground.
Callahan thows a big elbow that misses.
Callahan controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mousasi is looking to stand up but Callahan isn't so interested in that idea.
Callahan scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mousasi pushes Callahan off and gets back to his feet.

Callahan shoots in and bounces Mousasi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Callahan cracks Mousasi with a solid left hand.
Callahan scoring with some ground and pound.
Callahan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Callahan stands up and waves to Mousasi to follow him.

Callahan rushes Mousasi and presses him up against the cage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Callahan.
A frustrated look appears on Callahan's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Callahan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mousasi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

A cross from Callahan lands.

Callahan moves into the clinch.
Callahan goes for a takedown attempt but Mousasi pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Gegard Mousasi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mousasi avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mousasi with a poor takedown
and Callahan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Callahan looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Callahan is taking a breather. Mousasi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Callahan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Callahan passes to side control.
Mousasi managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Callahan.

Callahan scores with punches from side control.
Mousasi tries to escape but Callahan is in control.
Callahan is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Mousasi will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Callahan lands a decent elbow from side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The strikes coming from Callahan are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Callahan cracks Mousasi with a big right hand but Mousasi just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tommy Callahan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Callahan dives in and grabs Mousasi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mousasi pushes down on Callahan's head and hops out.

No joy there for Callahan, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Callahan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Callahan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mousasi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Callahan counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mousasi!
Callahan looking to ground and pound but Mousasi is blocking nicely.
Callahan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mousasi is looking to escape.
Callahan thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mousasi taking shots to the head.
Mousasi is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Callahan looking to control but Mousasi is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Mousasi flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mousasi trying desperately to get to his feet.
Callahan controlling from the full mount.
Callahan trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Mousasi is trying to stand up.
Callahan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Callahan scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Gegard Mousasi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Callahan lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Mousasi in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Callahan controlling the position easily from mount.
Mousasi is in a horrible position here. Callahan smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Callahan trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Mousasi is squirming around, avoiding Callahan's attempts to control the action.

Callahan has control of Mousasi's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Mousasi regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Mousasi is in a horrible position here. Callahan smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tommy Callahan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Callahan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
