PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jon Hellstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and john johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - johnston looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hellstrom tries to clinch

and johnston counters with a shoot takedown. Hellstrom fights it but they end up in guard.
johnston stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hellstrom swivels though and keeps the full guard.

johnston drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and johnston jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

johnston gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
johnston doesn't manage to clinch there - Hellstrom circles away.
johnston misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
johnston throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
johnston shoots in but no luck this time.
johnston shoots for a takedown but Hellstrom saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

johnston clinches up against the cage.
johnston is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Hellstrom is defending well for now.

Jon Hellstrom has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of john johnston.

johnston is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hellstrom gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Hellstrom is trying to break the clinch but johnston is controlling him.

johnston manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

johnston escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hellstrom gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

johnston looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hellstrom passes into side control.

johnston wants to get back to his feet.

Hellstrom 's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hellstrom really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hellstrom decides to stand back up.
Hellstrom fails to land with a series of punches.
john johnston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

johnston tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hellstrom swats him away and circles back towards the center.

johnston bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
johnston is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hellstrom is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

johnston has hold of Hellstrom 's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Hellstrom tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - johnston cranks the arm and Hellstrom screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Hellstrom , who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
