Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Oil Slick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slick comes to the cage accompanied by Careful With That Axe Eugene. Oil Slick has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Oil Slick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Mason!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Kavanagh and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Slick closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mason to the mat! Mason manages to get full guard.
Slick trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mason looking to control.
Slick stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mason swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slick trying to control but Mason is working from the bottom.

Slick is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mason utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Slick feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mason wants to pass the guard but Slick is keeping the position.

Slick had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Mason is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Slick Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Mason's back instead.

Slick is persistently looking for the submission but Mason is defending it well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slick is throwing shots to the body but Mason manages to wriggle free. Slick pounces on him again and ends up in Mason's guard.

Slick is looking to work some ground and pound but Mason has wrist control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mason keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mason displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Slick throws out the jab.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Slick fails with the takedown.
Mason scoring well with a low kick there.
Mason fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mason tries a head kick but it misses.
Slick looks to score with a jab to the body but Mason is just out of range.
Mason wants to clinch up but Slick keeps it at a distance.

Good leg kick by Mason there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Slick throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mason was covering up waiting for the punch and Slick finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Slick is breathing heavily.
Slick is working Mason over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Oil Slick will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mason tries to close the distance and clinch but Slick swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Slick shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mason sprawls well. Mason wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Slick gets slowly back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Jay Mason showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Slick drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mason looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mason looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mason!

Mason is looking to stand but Mason has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

Slick bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Slick is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mason is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mason has escaped and now he's on top!

Mason drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Slick dives on top into guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Oil Slick.
I think Slick has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
