The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target. Smith misses with a wild combination.

Some bone on bone action there as Dyrdek checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Dyrdek lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round. A jab from Dyrdek finds it's way through Smith's defenses. James Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Dyrdek throws out a loose jab but Smith uses good head movement to avoid it. Dyrdek loads up on a big right hand but Smith slips the punch. Dyrdek throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Smith lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Smith lands a nice shot that snaps Dyrdek's head back.
Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dyrdek circles away quickly and effectively. Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dyrdek moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Dyrdek throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Smith holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Dyrdek tries to break the clinch but Smith is controlling the position. Dyrdek is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Smith gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Dyrdek. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dyrdek is trying to break the clinch but Smith is controlling him. Dyrdek tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Dyrdek has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Smith down to the mat. Smith avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Dyrdek drops his hands momentarily and Smith takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Smith tries to bum rush Dyrdek with a series of wild strikes but Dyrdek uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dyrdek circles away quickly and effectively. A punch combination from Smith misses. Smith misses with a double jab
and Smith takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Horrible takedown by Dyrdek or perhaps it was just good defense by Smith which made him look bad.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dyrdek throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Dyrdek shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Smith counters with a lovely straight right hand! Dyrdek throws a nice looking combination but Smith bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Dyrdek throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Dyrdek has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Smith finds it's way round the side to connect with Dyrdek's head. Dyrdek misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.
Dyrdek will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Left hook, right uppercut from Dyrdek. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Dyrdek misses with a series of wild punches.

James Smith dominated that round. The cut man is working on James Smith's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Smith might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dyrdek circles away quickly and effectively. Smith throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Smith wants to slow Dyrdek down by chopping away at his legs. Smith tries to bum rush Dyrdek with a series of wild strikes but Dyrdek uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Decent striking displayed by Smith there. James Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A left and a right from Smith both land. Nice combination.
