PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Robert Paulson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy A (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paulson comes to the cage accompanied by Pantera - Cowboys from Hell. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Paulson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Freddy A!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paulson cracks A with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.


It looks like Freddy A has been cut.
A combination from A does no damage.
A moves out of range as Paulson strikes.
Paulson lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Some wild striking there from A.
Paulson throws a right and a left that both miss.
A fails with an attempt to clinch.
Paulson throws a combination that misses
and A counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
A tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Paulson swivels and escapes.
Paulson just misses with a punch to the body.
A misses with a wild combination.
No luck with that takedown attempt from A.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Paulson bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of A's head.
A looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

A has closed the distance and engaged Paulson in a clinch.
Paulson controlling the action here for a moment.
A frustrated look appears on Paulson's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Paulson has had enough of the clinch but A keeps him there for the moment.
Paulson lands with a light punch inside.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
A has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Paulson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Robert Paulson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Freddy A.
Paulson tries to circle away but A has him pinned against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Paulson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
A is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

A tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Paulson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Paulson lands a body punch in the clinch.
A looks gassed!
A tries to throw a body punch but Paulson avoids it by throwing A back against the cage.

A nice right hand lands inside from Paulson.
Paulson lands an uppercut.

Paulson breaks the clinch.
Paulson tries to bum rush A with a series of wild strikes but A uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A throws a left and a right that both miss
and Paulson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
A fails to land the takedown.
A tries to close the distance and clinch up but Paulson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A avoids a punch combination nicely.
Paulson scores with a shot to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Paulson lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Paulson works the jab nicely.


A is rocked!
Paulson lands a glancing blow to the side of A's head.
A is still on wobbly legs! Can Paulson finish him?
A walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Paulson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Paulson slows down the pace here.
A tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Paulson just stands there and leans against the cage.
A seems to have recovered his senses.
Paulson scores with a shoulder strike.
Paulson avoiding damage.
Paulson wants to break the clinch but can't.

Paulson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Paulson scores with the left hand. A knows he should have avoided that one.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Paulson steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! A is out on his feet! Paulson sets himself and nearly takes A's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Robert Paulson!
