Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Owen Christy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sandy Griffler! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Christy clinches up against the cage. Griffler drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Christy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Griffler gets a takedown into half guard. Griffler is working for a submission of some sort.
Griffler is trying to work for a kimura but Christy is defending well.
Christy flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Griffler is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Christy is just riding it out for now. Griffler eventually gives up the hold. Griffler thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Christy to regain full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffler drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Christy dives on top into guard. Griffler had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Christy is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Griffler Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Christy's back instead. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Griffler looks gassed! Christy rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Griffler throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Griffler is looking for a kimura but Christy is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Griffler to get the leverage. Griffler is thwarting Christy's attempts to control the position. Christy wants to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffler seems to be working for a kimura but Christy defends the submission attempt. Christy gets full guard. Christy is looking to stand up but Griffler isn't so interested in that idea. Christy trying to control the position.
Griffler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Griffler won't allow Christy to get back to his feet.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Griffler looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Christy is fending him off so far but Griffler persists. Nope, Christy circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Christy throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
A combination from Christy does no damage. Christy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Griffler moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Griffler fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Christy checks it well. Christy doesn't manage to clinch there - Griffler circles away.
Griffler shoots in but no luck this time. Owen Christy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sandy Griffler. Griffler closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Griffler is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Christy has escaped the position, nice work there. Griffler is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Christy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Christy is not in a great position here, taking some shots. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sandy Griffler dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Christy stuffs the takedown attempt from Griffler. Griffler gets slowly back to his feet. Christy tries for a takedown but Griffler circles away easily and Griffler counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Christy! Griffler lands a heavy elbow. Griffler working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Christy looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Griffler! Submission of the night perhaps?
