Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kengo Watanabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arvey Farell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Arvey Farell!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Farell doesn't manage to clinch there - Watanabe circles away.
Farell avoids the head kick by Watanabe.
Farell throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Watanabe rushes Farell and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Watanabe prevents the takedown attempt.

Watanabe breaks the clinch.
Farell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Watanabe pinned against the cage. Watanabe gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Farell shoots for a double leg takedown but Watanabe sprawls well. He's pushed Farell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kengo Watanabe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Arvey Farell.

Watanabe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Watanabe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Farell is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Watanabe knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Farell on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Watanabe stands up from mount. Strange move.

Watanabe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Farell to the mat! Farell manages to get full guard.
Farell wants to stand but Watanabe is controlling the position.

Watanabe throws a strike but Farell rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Watanabe uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Watanabe shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Farell sprawls well. Farell wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Watanabe gets slowly back to his feet.
Farell shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Watanabe as he avoids it easily.

Watanabe feints and as Farell raises his hands in defense, Watanabe changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Farell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Watanabe wants to stand but Farell has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Watanabe wants to pass the guard but Farell is keeping the position.

Farell wants to sweep here but Watanabe controlling him for the moment.
Farell is trying to control the position but Watanabe postures up.
Watanabe in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Watanabe wants to stand and escape but instead Farell has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Farell lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Horrible takedown by Watanabe or perhaps it was just good defense by Farell which made him look bad.
Farell shoots in but no luck this time.

Farell pivots, looking for a leg kick but Watanabe is out of range and Farell settles back down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Watanabe throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Farell shoots in for a takedown but Watanabe shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Watanabe is trying to trip Farell. He has hold of a leg but Farell is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Watanabe persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Watanabe decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Farell shoots in and drives through. Watanabe sprawls well.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Farell controls Watanabe momentarily but Watanabe frees himself.
Watanabe wants to pass the guard but Farell is keeping the position.
Farell doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Watanabe is stalling in the full guard.

Farell had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Watanabe is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Farell Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Watanabe's back instead.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Farell is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Watanabe manages to reverse the position and now he's in Farell's guard. Nice work there by Watanabe.
Watanabe not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's time! Watanabe's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Farell counters with a right hand to the body.

Watanabe clinches up against the cage.
Watanabe goes for a takedown in the clinch but Farell prevents it.

Watanabe breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Farell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Farell closes this distance looking for a takedown but Watanabe circles away.
Farell leaves Watanabe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Farell tries to score a power double leg takedown but Watanabe sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Farell somewhat.

Watanabe fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Farell, pushing him back against the cage.

Watanabe is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Watanabe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Farell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Farell swings for the body but Watanabe moves out of range.

Well Watanabe has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
