PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miren Amiano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Giubert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan Giubert told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Miren Amiano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Matheus Silva.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giubert tries to clinch there but Amiano circles away.
Amiano looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Giubert forces Amiano back against the cage and clinches.
Amiano fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Giubert is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Giubert breaks from the clinch.
Giubert moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

It looks like Miren Amiano has been cut.
Giubert tries to clinch up.
Giubert throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Amiano's waist but Amiano gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Giubert off to one side.

Giubert lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Amiano throws a head kick that Giubert semi-blocks.

Giubert darts in and clinches Amiano up against the cage.
Giubert jumps guard but Amiano stands there with Giubert around his waist. Giubert gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

and Amiano decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Giubert's guard.
Giubert is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Amiano is controlling him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Amiano is stalling in the full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Giubert can do anything to dispel that myth.
Giubert is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Amiano is controlling him.

Giubert seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Amiano tries to score a power double leg takedown but Giubert sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Amiano somewhat.

Giubert changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Amiano tries to avoid it but Giubert manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Amiano to the ground. Amiano escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Amiano counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Giubert!
Giubert is squirming around, avoiding Amiano's attempts to control the action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Giubert pushes Amiano off looking to stand but Amiano dives back in and keeps control.

Giubert manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Giubert fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Giubert takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Miren Amiano is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Amiano connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Giubert falls off balance throwing a combination
and Amiano counters with a nice body shot.
Giubert closes the distance but Amiano moves to the side
and Amiano counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Giubert is lucky that one didn't land flush.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Giubert wants to control but Amiano passes into side.
Amiano is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Giubert will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Miren Amiano overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
