The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida closes this distance looking for a takedown but Overeem circles away.
Machida misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Machida tries to close the distance and clinch but Overeem swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Overeem fails with the takedown.

Minota Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Machida turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

and Overeem decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Machida's guard.

Overeem thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Machida tries to escape but Overeem is in control.

Overeem has hold of Machida's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Machida seems comfortable defending it but Overeem has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Machida is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Machida is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Overeem couldn't care less - he's delighted!
