PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ron Wesley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stan Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross has chosen Killing in the Name of (Remix) as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ron Wesley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Stan Ross!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wesley fails with the takedown.
Wesley shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ross pinned against the cage. Ross gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Ross shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
It looks like Ross is going to stand back up.

Wesley looking for submissions off his back.
Wesley tries to get to full guard but Ross has control of the leg.
Ross seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wesley does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Wesley tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Ross has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Wesley on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Wesley tries to get out of the position.

Wesley is squirming around, avoiding Ross's attempts to control the action.

Ross postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Wesley looks a forlorn figure.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ross checks a leg kick.

Ross shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ross showed some decent athleticism there.
Ross is trying to control the action in half guard but Wesley is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Ross decides to return to a standing position.
Wesley misses with a low kick as Ross jumps back.
Ross fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ross fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wesley avoids it really well and circles away.
Ross checks the leg kick nicely there.
Ross is looking to clinch but Wesley is avoiding it.
Wesley throws a head kick but Ross moves out of range.

Ross darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Wesley manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Ross decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Ross misses with a takedown attempt - Wesley sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ron Wesley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stan Ross.
Wesley tries to work over Ross's front leg with a kick but Ross checks it.
Wesley is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ross.

The fight stays on the outside here - Ross looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Ross wants to clinch up but Wesley keeps it at a distance.

Ross feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Ross stands up and waves to Wesley to follow him.
Ross tries to close the distance and clinch but Wesley swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Wesley counters with a flying knee that sends his opponent to the canvas! Wesley looking to finish!
Ross is breathing heavily.

Ross wants to get back to his feet but Wesley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Ross bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wesley's guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ross trying to control the position from guard on top but Wesley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ross is looking to stand up but Wesley won't let him.
Wesley lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ross!
The referee warns Ross that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ron Wesley will probably get the nod.

Wesley rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ross moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Ron Wesley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ross is trying hard to land a takedown here. Wesley sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Wesley bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ross takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ross tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Ross gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Wesley.

Ross's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Ross goes for a takedown attempt but Wesley pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Wesley throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ross.

and Wesley counters with a nice low kick that buckles Ross's knee momentarily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wesley ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Ross walks forward, straight into a front kick from Wesley.
Ross wants to clinch but Wesley slips to the side
and Wesley counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Wesley.
Wesley circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ross closes the distance looking to clinch
and Wesley counters with a nice leg kick.
Ross tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Wesley makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Ross throws a head kick but Wesley moves out of range.
Wesley doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Ross counter with a right hand.
Wesley circles away from the clinch attempt
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Wesley misses with a leg kick

and Ross counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Wesley has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ross is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Wesley.
Wesley tries to buck Ross off but Ross is having none of it.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Ross stands up out of the half guard.
Ross fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ross looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Ross gets the takedown into side control.
Wesley is not content to let Ross control the position.
Wesley gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wesley is desperately trying to improve his position but Ross has a good base and remains in mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ron Wesley showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Wesley has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
