The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Helt feints and as Mazer raises his hands in defense, Helt changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Helt wants to stand but Mazer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Helt won't allow Mazer to sweep him here.

Helt has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mazer is proving hard to escape from.
Mazer is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Mazer is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mazer drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Helt stands and steps away. Mazer gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mazer chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Helt can pounce on him.

and Helt makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Mazer really felt that one!

Both fighters circling a little - Helt finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Mazer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Helt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Helt stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Fred Mazer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Helt shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mazer manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Helt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mazer on the ground.
Helt wants to get up but he can't break Mazer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Mazer throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Mazer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Mazer is landing with some decent strikes but Helt is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Helt shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mazer pinned against the cage. Mazer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Helt scores a takedown into full mount!

Helt is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Mazer wants to clinch but Helt slips to the side
and Helt counters with a nice kick to the body.
Mazer throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mazer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Helt tries to avoid it but Mazer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Helt to the ground. Helt escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
George Helt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mazer blocks a head kick by Helt.
Helt fails to land the takedown.
Mazer tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Helt decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mazer's guard.
