PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Fox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think White might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The White Stripes - Ball and Biscuit. The key to victory for Jack White has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack White! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Fox! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! White throws a combination. Fox tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
It looks like Steve Fox has been cut. Fox steps to the side to avoid the strikes from White. Fox fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. White looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. White lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fox circles away quickly and effectively. Fox shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has White pinned against the cage. White gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Fox shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Fox should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. White pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Fox just misses with a punch to the body.

White uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fox.
Fox feints and as White raises his hands in defense, Fox changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. White utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fox looking to pass the guard. White wants to stand and escape but Fox is having none of it. Fox trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. White lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fox! Fox is in all sorts of trouble here.
Fox is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. White tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Fox wants to hold on but White pushes him away. White goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Fox turns into him and now he's in White's guard.
Fox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. White swivels though and keeps the full guard. White will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Fox is looking to advance position but White has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Fox is desperately trying to improve his position but White has a good base and remains in mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. White tries to control but Fox wriggling away. Fox tries to hold on but White pushes him away. Fox is desperately trying to improve his position but White has a good base and remains in mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Fox sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Fox regains full guard. Nicely done. Fox is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Fox looks gassed! Fox working for a triangle but White defends it easily.
White gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jack White dominated that round. The cut man is working on Steve Fox's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
White throws a wild combination but nothing lands. White connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Fox's hands. Fox misses with a combination
and White counters with a nice uppercut. Fox doesn't succeed with the takedown and White counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Fox throws out a loose jab but White uses good head movement to avoid it. White fails to land with a series of punches.
White is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. White misses with a combination
and Fox counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. White wants to improve his position but Fox is controlling well.
That's one minute gone in the round. White is looking to escape. Fox is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but White still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, White has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Fox is trying to improve his position. White controlling from side mount. Fox manages to get back to half guard. Fox is trying to get back to full guard. Fox wants to control but White passes into side.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Fox tries to improve position but can't. White trying to control the action but Fox is working from the bottom. Fox manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fox is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fox is pressing down on White's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Fox controls White momentarily but White frees himself. Fox wants to sweep here but White controlling him for the moment. White postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. White trying to control the position from guard on top but Fox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. White got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fox has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, White has managed to get both his arms back between Fox's legs - danger averted. Fox wants to sweep here but White controlling him for the moment. White has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fox is proving hard to escape from. Fox looking for submissions from the bottom but instead White passes into half guard.
Fox looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Steve Fox will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Steve Fox's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Fox avoids a punch combination nicely.
White throws a hook but Fox blocks it. Fox swings and misses with a hook to the body.
White throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. White throws a right and a left that Fox avoids nicely. White misses with a double jab.
White swings for the body but Fox moves out of range.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Fox throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. White was covering up waiting for the punch and Fox finishes the takedown easily into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fox wants to control from the top but White keeps moving. Fox drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fox jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. White trying to control the position.

Fox might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control White kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Fox looking for a sweep. Not yet Fox, not yet. Fox not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Fox isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. White stacks Fox on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by White! Fox is looking to reverse the position. White has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Fox misses the body punch and White counters with a straight right hand. Fox feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Fox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. White swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fox drops back, looking for a kneebar! White looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. White looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from White! Fox can't do much from the bottom here. Fox tries to improve position but can't. Fox trying to remain calm as White controls from the top position. White wants to stand but Fox is controlling his arm.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Fox sneaks back into half guard. White is trying to work for a kimura but Fox is defending well.
Fox is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but White pulls his head out easily. White is taking a breather. Fox says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Fox manages to get to full guard.
Fox is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Steve Fox. I think Fox has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
