A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grendel lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Ricci tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Grendel paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Grendel throws a jab but it's blocked by Ricci.
Ricci keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Grendel.
Grendel swats away the attempt to clinch by Ricci.
Grendel misses with a wild body shot.
Grendel throws a nice looking combination but Ricci bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Grendel thuds a left hand into Ricci's body.
Grendel moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Ricci moves out of range as Grendel strikes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ricci looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ricci on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Ricci shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Grendel scores with a hook to the body. Ricci takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Grendel takes a swing at Ricci's ribcage but misses.
Grendel misses with a looping right.
Ricci takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ricci has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Grendel changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Ricci is still on wobbly legs! Can Grendel finish him?

Grendel lands a big right hand that sends Ricci crashing to the mat! Grendel stays standing though and waves Ricci back to his feet!
Grendel throws an overhand right that drops Ricci like a sack of potatoes! Grendel dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
