Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brandon Phillips! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Phillips moves out of range and avoids them all easily. A punch combination from Penn misses. PJ Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A combination from Penn does no damage. Penn moves out of range of the body kick from Phillips.
Penn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Phillips is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Phillips works his way into side control. Penn manages to get back to half guard. Nice strikes from Phillips there. Phillips blocks the strikes from Penn.

That's one minute gone in the round. Penn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Phillips is one step ahead there. Phillips must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Penn working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Phillips has passed into half guard!

Phillips instigates a clinch. Phillips lands with a right to the head. Phillips is trying to maintain a safe position but Penn gets an underhook and turns Phillips into the cage. Phillips with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Still in the clinch, Phillips scores with a nice short uppercut. Penn wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Phillips has him pressed against the cage. Phillips lands a shot to the body. Phillips slows down the pace here.

Penn is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Phillips scores with a nice hook to the head. Phillips breaks from the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Phillips throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Phillips takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Penn with a body punch. A glancing blow. Penn shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Phillips pinned against the cage. Phillips gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Phillips throws a nice outside leg kick. Penn throws a series of strikes that have Phillips backpedaling.
Penn looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Penn looks to land a right hand but Phillips moved out of range. Penn chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Phillips can pounce on him.
Danga de danga de dang - Phillips scores with a four punch combination! Phillips wants to clinch up but Penn keeps it at a distance. Penn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Phillips wants to get back to his feet but Penn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Penn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Phillips pushes Penn off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Phillips lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Penn is rocked! Penn stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Phillips. Oh Penn is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Phillips feints and then cracks Penn's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Penn down. Phillips keeps Penn at a distance using the push kick. Phillips is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Penn hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!
