PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Urat Shahriar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ciril Motachenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Motachenko comes into a darkened arena with his song building. King Ring kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Urat Shahriar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ciril Motachenko!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shahriar fails with an attempt to clinch.
Shahriar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Motachenko pinned against the cage. Motachenko gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Shahriar keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Shahriar shoots and misses

and Motachenko counters with a nice double leg into side control. Shahriar won't be happy with that.

Motachenko decides to stand up, so the ref orders Shahriar to his feet.

Motachenko is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Shahriar's half guard.
Motachenko is taking a breather. Shahriar says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
I looks like Motachenko might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Let's hope that Motachenko has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Motachenko is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Motachenko decides to return to a standing position.
Motachenko throws a right and a left that Shahriar avoids nicely.
Shahriar tries to clinch but Motachenko moves out of range.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Shahriar tries to close the distance and clinch but Motachenko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Shahriar scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Motachenko looks gassed!
Shahriar moves in looking to clinch but Motachenko pushes him off.
Shahriar gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Motachenko counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Urat Shahriar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Motachenko not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Shahriar is trying to control the position but Motachenko postures up.

Motachenko is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Motachenko wanted to stand there but Shahriar had control of the position.
Shahriar trying to keep a closed guard but Motachenko is proving a slippery customer.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Motachenko stays in close to Shahriar's body and controls the position.
Motachenko's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ciril Motachenko just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Shahriar gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Motachenko counters with a single leg into guard. Shahriar didn't expect that.
Motachenko is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ciril Motachenko dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Shahriar tries to clinch there but Motachenko circles away.
Shahriar shoots and misses

and Motachenko counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Shahriar!
Ciril Motachenko has got the better of the ground game so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shahriar tries to hold on but Motachenko pushes him away.

Motachenko tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Motachenko doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Shahriar counters with a series of strikes. Motachenko will be more careful next time no doubt.
Shahriar tries to close the distance and clinch but Motachenko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Shahriar prevents a takedown attempt there.
Shahriar tries to land knees in the clinch but Motachenko avoids the damage to the body.

Shahriar misses with some punches.
Motachenko goes for a takedown attempt but Shahriar pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Urat Shahriar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ciril Motachenko.

Shahriar has managed to clinch.
Motachenko is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Shahriar gets underhooks to prevent Motachenko's takedown attempt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shahriar struggles to land a body shot inside as Motachenko controls his hands.
Motachenko has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shahriar is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Motachenko fails to pull guard.
Shahriar pushes off an throws an elbow but Motachenko leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Motachenko wants a takedown but no success here.
Shahriar scores with a shoulder strike.
Shahriar misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Motachenko.
Motachenko on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Motachenko tries for a takedown but Shahriar manages to get underhooks.
Motachenko tries to pull guard but Shahriar holds him up against the cage and eventually Motachenko drops back down to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ciril Motachenko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Shahriar has Motachenko pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Motachenko manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Motachenko postures up.
Motachenko forces his way into half guard.
Motachenko frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Shahriar wants to hold on but Motachenko pushes him away.
Shahriar is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Motachenko controlling the position easily from mount.

Motachenko working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

and Motachenko decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Shahriar's guard.
Motachenko slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Shahriar working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Motachenko doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Motachenko manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Motachenko is pushing down on Shahriar's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shahriar is fighting to maintain full guard but Motachenko has managed to sneak the leg through.
Motachenko is controlling the pace.
Urat Shahriar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ciril Motachenko is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Ciril Motachenko comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Motachenko winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
