The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abbott tries to clinch up.

Shaw drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Shaw stands up and beckons Abbott to his feet.
Abbott tries to clinch up but Shaw circles away and keeps his distance.
Shaw takes a kick to the side of the head.
Shaw shoots in and drives through. Abbott sprawls well.
Abbott fails in his attempt to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Abbott looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Shaw scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Shaw really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Abbott. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shaw in particular looking to stall.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shaw lands a nice short elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
