PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scooby Doo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and shane connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Doo might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Scooby Doo Theme Song. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scooby Doo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, shane connor!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Bruno Hogan and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Doo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming connor to the mat! connor manages to get full guard.
connor looking to hit a scissor sweep but Doo is one step ahead there.
Doo wants to control from the top but connor keeps moving.
Doo controlling from the top position.
connor keeping moving, preventing Doo from controlling successfully.
connor controls Doo momentarily but Doo frees himself.
Doo wants to control from the top but connor keeps moving.
connor wants to sweep but no luck.

That's one minute gone in the round.
connor manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Doo is in all sorts of trouble here.
connor tries to control but Doo wriggling away.
Doo gets back to half guard.
connor wants to control but Doo is keeping him busy.
Doo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
connor is pressing down on Doo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Doo is holding on for now.
Doo gets back to full guard.
Doo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Doo looking for a guillotine here but connor defends easily.
Doo is breathing heavily.
connor trying to control the position from guard on top but Doo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
connor thows a big elbow that misses.

connor got a little sloppy there for a moment and Doo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, connor has managed to get both his arms back between Doo's legs - danger averted.
Doo is trying to control the position but connor postures up.
Doo looking for a sweep. Not yet Doo, not yet.
connor trying to control but Doo is working from the bottom.
connor trying to stand up but can't free himself from Doo's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
connor wants to control from the top but Doo keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A cross from connor lands.
connor stuffs the takedown attempt from Doo. Doo gets slowly back to his feet.

Doo has closed the distance and engaged connor in a clinch.
connor stops a takedown attempt from Doo.
connor wants a takedown.
connor lands a hook to the side of the head.
A right hand to the body from connor.
connor is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
connor tries to pull guard but Doo holds him up against the cage and eventually connor drops back down to his feet.
Doo trying to stall but connor improves his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

connor gets control of Doo's arms and successfully pulls guard. connor will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Doo stands and throws connor's legs to the side, diving into side control.
connor is looking for a sweep.
Doo wants to control for a moment but connor uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Doo kicks connor off and gets back to his feet.
Doo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scooby Doo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
connor throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Doo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. connor looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Doo lands a nice forearm strike.
Doo has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for connor!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scooby Doo dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Doo throws a right and a left that both miss.
Doo lands a two punch combo.
connor shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Doo counters with a single leg into guard. connor didn't expect that.
Doo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. connor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
connor working a defensive guard here.
connor keeping moving, preventing Doo from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Doo pushes down on connor's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Doo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but connor sees it coming and defends easily.
connor is pressing down on Doo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Doo trying to control the position from guard on top but connor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
connor is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Doo won't allow connor to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Doo controlling from the top position.
connor looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Doo puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Doo moves into full mount! connor won't be happy about that!
Doo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as connor is looking to escape.
Doo prevents connor from getting the reversal.
Doo is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. connor is in real trouble.

connor defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Doo's arms.

Doo is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Doo wants to control but connor manages to buck him off and is now in Doo's guard! Nice work there by connor!
connor has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Doo is proving hard to escape from.

Doo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

connor tries to stand but Doo is controlling from the bottom.
connor postures up.
Scooby Doo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Doo is really struggling to control connor but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Doo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Doo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Doo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
connor is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scooby Doo dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


A punch combination from Doo misses.
connor throws a series of punches but Doo avoids them all with ease.
Doo throws a right hand that connor ducks under and follows up with a left that connor also avoids with ease.
Scooby Doo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
connor tries to clinch up but Doo circles away and keeps his distance.

Doo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. connor is trying to defend but Doo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Doo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so connor is just riding it out for now. Doo eventually gives up the hold.
Doo prevents connor from improving his position.
connor controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

connor is defending against the submission attempts here by Doo.
connor is doing well to control the position and prevent Doo from advancing to side control.

Doo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
connor landing a few short strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
connor tries to get to full guard but Doo has control of the leg.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Doo connects with a nice short shot to connor's temple.
connor is in trouble now - Doo has advanced to mount!
Doo controlling his opponent.
Doo working the ground and pound effectively.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Doo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
connor is trying desperately to improve position.
Doo takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Doo lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can connor hold on?!
connor manages to reverse the position and now he's in Doo's guard. Nice work there by connor.
connor in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Doo looking to control but connor passes into half guard.
Doo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
connor controlling the action here.
Doo wants to get back to his feet.
Scooby Doo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Doo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of connor's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take connor's back!
Doo lands punches and elbows.
Doo is riding his opponent, not letting connor buck him off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
connor tries to break free.

And that's the end of the fight!
Scooby Doo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Doo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
