Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Humberlito Borges (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Borges has chosen O que sobrou do ceu as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. BJ Penn has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Humberlito Borges!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Penn performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Borges is trying to control but can't.
Still in half guard, Penn seems content to control.
Borges is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Borges is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Penn has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Penn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Penn scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Borges?

Borges is bucking up trying to escape but Penn cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Penn lands a big elbow.

The referee stands the fighters back up. BJ Penn just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Borges has his takedown stuffed

and Penn counters with a single leg into guard. Borges didn't expect that.

Penn stands up and waves to Borges to follow him.
Penn shoots in but no luck this time.

Penn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Borges was covering up waiting for the punch and Penn finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Penn is breathing heavily.

Penn stands up over Borges, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Borges is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Penn is aware though and is defending well.
Penn is pushing down on Borges's leg trying to pass to half guard. Borges is fighting to maintain full guard but Penn has managed to sneak the leg through.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Borges is not content to let Penn control the position.
Borges tries to get to full guard but Penn has control of the leg.
Borges is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Borges strikes from the bottom but Penn uses the opportunity to move to side control.
Borges tries to improve position but can't.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Penn fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Borges sprawls well initially but Penn persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Penn working over Borges with some ground and pound. Borges looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Penn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Penn pushes down on Borges's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Penn is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Penn wants to free his trapped foot but Borges is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Borges lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Borges.

Penn drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Borges manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Penn has Borges in his guard.
Penn looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Penn is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Penn throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Borges might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Penn kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Penn rushes Borges and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Borges tries to stall but Penn uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Penn drags the fight down to the ground.
Penn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Borges!
Penn lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Borges hang on?
Penn controlling from the full mount.
Borges is squirming around, avoiding Penn's attempts to control the action.

And that's the end of the fight!
BJ Penn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Penn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
