Davis has chosen Revolution is My Name as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, John Bamber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gary Davis!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Chad Campbell and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bamber shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Davis defends it nicely.
Nice sprawl there from Davis as Bamber shoots in.

Davis shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bamber manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Davis wanted to stand there but Bamber had control of the position.
Davis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bamber wants to stand and escape but Davis is having none of it.

Bamber is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davis is aware though and is defending well.
Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bamber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bamber has his foot on Davis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Davis works his way back into a safe position though.
Bamber doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Davis trying to control the position from guard on top but Bamber is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bamber has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Davis can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Davis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Davis wants to control from the top but Bamber keeps moving.
Davis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Bamber being controlled here, momentarily.

Bamber escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Davis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Bamber is breathing heavily.

Bamber is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davis is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bamber is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bamber will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Bamber keeping moving, preventing Davis from controlling successfully.
Davis with a nice head shot there.
Davis wanted to stand there but Bamber had control of the position.
Bamber wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Davis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bamber swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Davis gets a takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Davis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bamber keeps working.

Bamber looking for submissions off his back.
Davis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Davis decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Bamber.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bamber shoots and misses

and Davis counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bamber's guard now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Bamber. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Davis prevents Bamber from getting back to his feet.

Bamber escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Davis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Davis is looking to work some ground and pound but Bamber has wrist control.

Davis is posturing up here but Bamber has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Davis tries to roll out but it's too tight and Davis has to tap! Slick submission there by Bamber!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Bamber!
