Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Robbie Evans! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Friendish! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Columbo Gatti and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Evans gets the takedown into side control. Friendish is trying to control Evans's posture but Evans avoids it. Evans is working Friendish over with some ground and pound from side control. Friendish taking punishment in the form of punches.
You can see the frustration on Friendish's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Friendish really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Evans. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Evans working the ground and pound. Evans trying to control the position but Friendish is working away. Friendish is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Evans lands a few punches from side control. Evans misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Evans staying calm. Friendish is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Evans has just dragged him back down to the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Evans in side control lands a decent elbow. Evans working the head with strikes. Evans working away. Evans is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Friendish knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Evans wants to lay and pray for a moment but Friendish keeps working. Friendish is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Evans asserts his dominance and retains side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Friendish can do anything to dispel that myth. Friendish taking punishment in the form of punches.
Evans cracks Friendish with a big elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Evans is putting a hurting on Friendish here, landing some big shots from side control. Evans creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Friendish pushes Evans away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Evans gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Evans lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Evans lands some shots froms side control.
Friendish is rocked! Evans landing strikes. Friendish is still in real trouble! Can Evans finish him? Evans has knee on belly and moves into mount. Evans is landing with some decent strikes but Friendish is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Evans is in full mount looking to finish with strikes. He lands a big shot, followed by another and Friendish goes limp! The ref jumps in to end the fight - a big win for Evans!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Robbie Evans! Robbie Evans is the new heavyweight champion!
