Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave Bower (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Wheldon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Bower might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Triple H Theme Song. Kevin Wheldon has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Bower!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Wheldon!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bower will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bower fails to land with a series of punches.

Bower fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wheldon sprawls well initially but Bower persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wheldon is pressing down on Bower's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Wheldon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bower is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bower scoring with punches to the head and body.
Bower trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Bower throws a big right hand that misses.
Bower throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Bower drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bower jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wheldon wants to stand and escape but Bower is having none of it.
Wheldon has momentary wrist control but Bower slips an elbow through the middle.

Bower drops back looking for a leg! Wheldon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wheldon manages to kick Bower off! Bower jumps back into Wheldon's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bower loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bower looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Wheldon showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Bower.
Wheldon shoots for a takedown but Bower saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wheldon stuffs the takedown.
Wheldon moves out of range as Bower strikes.
A combination from Bower does no damage.
Bower is breathing heavily.
A punch combination from Bower misses.

Wheldon has Bower up against the cage in a clinch.
Wheldon has Bower pressed against the cage, preventing Bower from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Wheldon fails to pull the fight into his guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wheldon slows down the pace here.

Wheldon pulls guard successfully.
Bower stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wheldon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bower is working Wheldon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Bower might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Bower's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Wheldon is pulling down on Bower's head. It's preventing any offense from Bower, at least for the moment.
Bower is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Bower thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Bower postures up in Wheldon's guard and throws a big left but Wheldon blocks it.

Bower postures up.
Bower postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bower has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bower keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Wheldon's head.

Wheldon kicks Bower off and gets to his feet.

Wheldon clinches up against the cage.
Wheldon lands a left hand.
Bower jumps guard but Wheldon stands there with Bower around his waist. Bower gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Bower tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Wheldon smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Bower. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bower looks to land a combination but Wheldon avoids it well.
Bower throws a series of punches but Wheldon moves out of range.

Bower shoots in and bounces Wheldon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Wheldon controls Bower momentarily but Bower frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bower landing some decent shots from guard.
Wheldon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wheldon controlling Bower's posture.
Bower lands a couple of elbows.
Bower trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Bower throwing strikes but missing.
Bower stops Wheldon from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Bower dominated that round.

Nice uppercut there from Bower.

Wheldon darts in and clinches Bower up against the cage.
Bower has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Bower tries to break free but Wheldon pushes him back against the cage.

Wheldon stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Wheldon landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Bower is trying to drag Wheldon to the mat but Wheldon just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Bower drops down looking for an ankle pick but Wheldon pulls his leg out and moves away.

Bower gets caught flat footed, as Wheldon shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Bower is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wheldon is aware though and is defending well.

Bower manages to work his way to half guard, despite Wheldon's best efforts.
Wheldon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bower does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Dave Bower overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bower lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Bower lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Bower working for a guillotine from mount but Wheldon is in no mood to give up.
BOOM! Bower connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wheldon wants to control but Bower is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bower swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Wheldon drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wheldon wants to stand but Bower is controlling his posture from full guard.
Bower thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Bower working for a triangle but Wheldon defends it easily.
Wheldon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wheldon uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Wheldon shoots for a takedown but Bower saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Wheldon closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Bower wants to get back to his feet but Wheldon drags him back down.

Wheldon stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Wheldon fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bower, pushing him back against the cage.

Bower has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Bower has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Wheldon uses from the top position.

Wheldon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Bower escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wheldon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bower is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bower is striking from the bottom but Wheldon uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

Dave Bower is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Bower is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bower thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Wheldon is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bower scores with a couple of nice shots.

Bower is nestled in close to Wheldon, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Bower not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Wheldon tries to roll over but Bower keeps him under control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dave Bower.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bower, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
