Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Johanssen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Cirianni!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cirianni tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Johanssen.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cirianni tries to buck Johanssen off but Johanssen is having none of it.
Cirianni sneaks back into half guard.
Johanssen tries to pass to full mount but Cirianni defends it.

Johanssen is working for a kimura but Cirianni is defending it quite comfortably.

Johanssen is looking for a kimura but Cirianni is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Johanssen to get the leverage.
Cirianni moves into full guard.
Johanssen passes Cirianni's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Cirianni is defending against the submission attempts here by Johanssen.

Johanssen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cirianni pushes Johanssen off looking to stand but Johanssen dives back in and keeps control.

Johanssen is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Johanssen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Johanssen is trying to control the action in half guard but Cirianni is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Johanssen has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Cirianni is squirming around, avoiding Johanssen's attempts to control the action.
Johanssen moves to the back.
Cirianni looks gassed!

Johanssen is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Cirianni knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Cirianni for a finish.

Johanssen has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Cirianni has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Johanssen is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Cirianni turns into Johanssen and is now in his guard.

Johanssen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cirianni can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Johanssen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cirianni manages to get himself to full guard.

Johanssen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cirianni is surviving well by controlling Johanssen's body position as best he can.
Cirianni is squirming around, avoiding Johanssen's attempts to control the action.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Cirianni rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Johanssen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Johanssen shoots for a takedown but Cirianni saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cirianni fails with an attempt to clinch.

Cirianni has Johanssen up against the cage in a clinch.
Johanssen fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Johanssen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cirianni breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Cirianni closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Johanssen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Johanssen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cirianni's guard.
Johanssen pushes down on Cirianni's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Johanssen wants to work for an arm triangle but Cirianni is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cirianni is trying to stand back up but Johanssen is controlling him

Johanssen in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Cirianni tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Johanssen!
