Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frank James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jjjj Klf! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Klf tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center. Klf tries to clinch up but James circles away and keeps his distance. James swats away the attempt to clinch by Klf. James shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Klf is trying to defend but James finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Klf is trying to get back to full guard. Klf trying to hold on to James's head to control him but James postures up.
James looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Klf with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Klf is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. James wants to pass to mount but Klf is defending the position. Klf is not content to let James control the position. James takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
That's one minute gone in the round. James looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. James blocks the strikes from Klf.
Klf is staying active underneath James, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Klf tries to kick James off but James keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Excellent takedown into side control there by James. James working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Klf being controlled for a moment. Klf is trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James lands a few punches from side control. James cracks Klf with an elbow. That is naaassty. Klf is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. James connects with a nice short shot to Klf's temple. James prevents Klf from improving his position. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. James is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. James could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. James wants to pass to mount but Klf is defending the position. James missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Klf is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but James pulls his head out easily. James is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Klf trying to hold on to James's head to control him but James postures up.
James takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. James wants to pass to mount but Klf is defending the position.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. The fight stays on the outside here - Klf looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Klf tries a head kick but it misses.
Klf pulls out of a head kick attempt.
James lands an overhand right. James bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Klf sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. James working over Klf with some ground and pound. Klf looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Klf is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. James knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Klf on the ground. Klf has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. James is working away from the top position though. Klf is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. James lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. James trying to advance position but Klf counters by regaining guard. James wants to pass the guard but Klf is keeping the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frank James dominated that round. That's time! James's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Klf with a nice cross. Klf tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. James swats away the attempt to clinch by Klf. James closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. James is staying tight to Klf's torso, preventing him from escaping. Klf tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but James wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Klf is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. James laying and praying for a moment but Klf takes advantage and regains half guard. Klf manages to get to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. James tries to free his leg and advance position but Klf is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Klf looking for a triangle here. James is fighting it but it looks tight! Klf pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, James is tapping out - this one is all over!
