Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shige Takazaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lenny James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lenny James has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shige Takazaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Lenny James!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takazaki slips under a jab.
Takazaki dives in and grabs James's left leg, looking for a takedown. James pushes down on Takazaki's head and hops out.
Takazaki fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but James avoids it really well and circles away.
Takazaki avoids the head kick by James.

James knocks Takazaki to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?


It looks like Shige Takazaki has been cut.
Takazaki is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Takazaki moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
James won't allow Takazaki to sweep him here.
Takazaki has a closed guard, preventing James from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Takazaki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but James can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

James really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Takazaki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
James wants to stand and escape but instead Takazaki has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Takazaki gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Takazaki crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from James - the referee stops the clock and Takazaki gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says James. Takazaki manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Takazaki is breathing heavily.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Takazaki paws at him with a jab and circles away.
James throws a sloppy head kick and Takazaki moves out of range easily.
Takazaki shoots in and drives through. James sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shige Takazaki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James throws a head kick that misses.
Takazaki tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
James with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

James throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Takazaki shoots in and drives through. James sprawls well.
Takazaki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A decent looking body kick lands there for James.

and Takazaki counters with an outside leg kick.
Takazaki tries to clinch but James is having none of it.
James throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Takazaki.
Takazaki ducks down and throws a hook to the body but James moves away.
Takazaki shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as James sprawls well. James wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Takazaki gets slowly back to his feet.
James tries to clinch but Takazaki moves away

and Takazaki holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Takazaki wants a takedown but no success here.
Takazaki on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Takazaki stops a takedown attempt from James.

Takazaki pulls James into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Takazaki can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as James controls the pace.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Takazaki swivels though and keeps the full guard.
James wants to control from the top but Takazaki keeps moving.

Takazaki is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and James defends well.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Takazaki is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Lenny James will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A lazy left from James finds it's target.
James throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Takazaki is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.

Takazaki shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. James manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Takazaki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Takazaki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
James tries to clinch but Takazaki moves out of range.
Takazaki will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Takazaki is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.
Takazaki shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts James as he jumps to the side.

Lenny James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Shige Takazaki is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Takazaki tries to score a power double leg takedown but James sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Takazaki somewhat.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
James tries to close the distance and clinch but Takazaki swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Takazaki wants to clinch up but James keeps it at a distance.

James is trying to force a seperation but Takazaki has the dominant position.

James wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
James tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Takazaki smiles and moves away.

A close second round but Lenny James will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
James is looking to control Takazaki's arms but Takazaki gets an underhook and turns him. Now James has his back to the cage.

Takazaki is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. James is aware though and is defending well.

Takazaki looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Takazaki is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Takazaki had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. James is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Takazaki Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take James's back instead.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Takazaki's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Takazaki is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. James knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften James for a finish.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

James tries to escape but Takazaki has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Shige Takazaki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Lenny James is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Takazaki throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Shige Takazaki showed his dominance in that final round.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
